I took a fullboard package of 4D3N for a price of RM394 per pax. Included in the package were welcome drink, ferry to and fro from Mersing, 1 day Island tour,(to taman laut, tekek village for free duty shopping, mind you, they have only BSN here, and finally to Rengis island) meals (3 breakfast, 2 lunch, 2 dinner + 1 bbq dinner) and a room. We stayed from 31May-3rd June 09 at room number 109. (family unit) I was in a family of 6 adults and 1 3 year old child. No fancy food for breakfast (still, they were okay and edible ehehe).
Genting Bayu was okay. However there are few setbacks i'd like to highlight and suggest be improved. Firstly, the lightings in the room. There was only 1 light for the entire family unit and it was rather dim. 2 brighter lights would do best. oh well, we did have good nite sleeps..:)
Secondly, the bathroom. No amenities included. I wished for a better service on this. Maybe better tiles instead of the old ones? hmm well ok, let's not be too picky on that, can we? However, i love the chilly water tap though, directly from the mountain, will definitely keep you fresh all the time. Expect to see some ancient 80's stuff, such as the air conditioner but it works perfectly fine.
Right yes, another setback was the distance from the jetty. It was a long walk passing through some village pathway, more or less 1km i may assume before finally reaching the chalet. (10-15 minutes walk). It was tiring and inconvenient for me. .. in addition, groceries and souvenir shops only made available at the jetty area. Imagine getting hungry in the middle of the night and the only place you can grab ramly burgers are at the jetty? they should this rent-a-bike for rm 3, i'd be the first to take it..or free ride for chalet guests, good idea, no? No 'path lightings' available on few stretches from jetty back to the chalet,so it's a bit scary..may i advise you to bring your own flashlights, it will come in handy, believe you me. (if you choose to stay at Genting Bayu that is)
For those who have yet to know this information, Kampung Genting has few other chalet operators namely Island Reef Resort, Tropical Coral Inn, Genting Jaya Resort, Sun Beach Resort, Tioman Genting Happy Inn, Genting Damai Resort, and finally the abandoned and eye sore Tioman Yacth Resort. (as it is spelt). Genting Bayu is the furthest towards north.. pick your choice :)
Nonetheless, despite all the setbacks, Tioman scenery was amazingfantabeautimagnificent. I really enjoyed my time here. Not to mention the warm welcome from the staffs there. They were attentive and polite. thumbs on, no doubt. We made few friends. suitable vacation for family if you're not particular with all these details. Happy holidays!
