This hotel was one of the best we stayed at during a three week tour of Morocco with Intrepid travel.

The hotel is about 10 mins walk from the medina.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. The meals from the hotel restaurant are very good.

The rooms, while small, are cheerfully decorated, comfortable and clean. The only problem I had was that the shower sprayed all over the bathroom and the plug didn't drain properly which meant that water leaked into the room.

Each floor has a lounge area outside the rooms, which was nice. The pool and outdoor area, while unsuitable for winter when we were there, looked very nice and would be great for warmer weather.

I would agree with most of the reviews already here, so I won't repeat what has already been said. There are dogs next door to the hotel that bark continuously most of the night. I would suggest a pair of earplugs if you intend on getting any sleep. We stayed in one of the rooms furthest from the entrance. Other than that, it is a great place to stay.

After driving through the traffic conjested town of Chechaouen and down a bumpy dirt road to get to Dar Echchaouen, we were delighted with the little oasis of calm and the pretty rooms. Also the friendly reception staff made us feel welcome. The walk to the Medina is easy and took us past the river where the local women wash their laundry as I imagine they have done for centuries. The blue walls of the houses are beautiful, people are friendly, and the streets are safe, as far as we could tell. We opted for dinner at the hotel, which was very good and inexpensive.our room overlooked the whole town and the mountains beyond. We had tea in the charming garden and watched the stars come out. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom very small but with lots of hot water. We look forward to our next stay!

Our experience of Dar Echchaouen was slightly different than the previous reviews. First, our room, which was located near reception and over the courtyard, was incredibly noisy. There was no chance of sleeping until the last guest had retired. Similarly, we were awake when the first guest ventured down to breakfast in the morning. We were not made to feel welcome when we checked in. We were, in fact, given a surly and sullen "welcome" although the manager did thaw in the next 24 hours but it took some work getting him to that stage. The staff, however, were lovely. The beds were also the hardest we had encountered in Africa to date. We agree that the hotel breakfast is fabulous and the decor is charming.
