“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We are a family of 5, 3 teenage daughters. We chose this Hotel based on a glowing recommendation from the Lonely Planet Guide for a budget hotel. On arrival we were placed in 2 different rooms across the road from each other, not ideal for a family with younger kids. The rooms were nice and spacious, comfortable beds but the tiny bathroom had no external window and a serious mould problem. The shower outlet, which dribbled out, was positioned over the toilet. Mosquitoes were in abundance throughout the hotel. We ended up eating no meals at the hotel after our first experience on arrival. A very expensive and average meal. We ate lovely, traditional and tasty food at a cafe at the end of the road the hotel is in for a fraction of the price - 5 minute walk or 2 minutes on bikes. Delicious Roti, freshly squeezed juices, soups etc....We also bought beer from the local wine shop as the markup was considerably more at the hotel than some of the mid range hotels we had stayed at.

Room Tip: Make sure you inspect room before taking as the friends we travelled with had mould over one entire...

“Milano Rest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

located about 2 km from the Sacred City, was a great starting point to explore the area. Staff was incredibly friendly and pretty knowledgeable on the area, you can grab a map from the front desk that points out many of the sites as you cruise around the old city. Although it's a little steep for most backpackers and most solo travelers (3400 SR with breakfast) and the meals can be slightly pricey too it's still a great place to stay. The double room (105) was a bit small but had A/C, fan, couch, desk and wow even a T.V. There's wi-fi as well as multiple computers to use. You shouldn't really need hot water but if you do make sure to get up early before the solar heater is drained.
If your feeling a little adventurous renting a bike is by far the best way to see much of the old city, as constant road construction closes off most of the roads to vehicle traffic. The hotel is a short ride to the old city, train and bus stations and right down the road from the Nuwara Wewa (man made lake) where you can take an afternoon stroll and are bound to spot a few birds (or snakes and lizards!) Just make sure to bring your mosquito replant as the pond in the courtyard doubles as a mosquito breeding ground and they can be hellish in the evening!

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the second level, as well as inside the main building instead of outside on the...

“Great breakfast!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

A good welcome for my group of 20 and friendly service at dinner, set up for us at a long table in the garden. Possibly the best breakfast of our tour, with plain, egg and string hoppers, tasty accompanying curries and spices, and an explanation of Sri Lankan early day eating. A convenient base for the wonders of Anaradhapura, within easy reach by bike. Also close to the enormous, ancient, man-made "tank". Rooms variable. Some much improved by a massacre of the mosquitoes. Bring mosquito protection and use it!

Room Tip: Ask to see a choice of rooms before deciding. They are not all the same.

Clean rooms, friendly staff and good location. We had a nice organised tour with Sudath: an interesting and good guide. We enjoyed our stay here.

“Very professional staff but old fashion rooms....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We spent two nights here. The room was not very nice. The design is very old fashion and not good looking... without creativity. The tub was not usable, not much comfort...tons of mosquitos.... but very nice is the patio..mango trees in the garden & cute cats...the staff helped us very well but the offered Anaradhapura/Minhatale Tuk-Tuk tour is too expensive (4000 Rs.)... online room rate also too expensive (12 Euro per person B&B)... better not to book in advance.. ask for discount directly at the hotel...With a cheaper price, my rating would be better...
