We have stayed 7 nights at the JW Marriott in Mumbai after a relaxing week in Goa. It was our 3rd stay in the hotel. The property remains impressive, being one of the best hotels in Mumbai. Location is great, spot on Juhu beach.
On the positives: impressive and well maintained property, excellent security, nice pool grounds, great gym, excellent breakfast.
However, with the increasing competition in the 5* hotels in Mumbai (e.g. Four Seasons), JW Marriott could improve on some elements in order to remain among the top hotels:
- standard rooms are very small and the not yet renovated rooms have moisty, dusty smell. So does the corridors that lead to the rooms due to worn out fitted carpets that spread an uncomfortable smell.
- turndown service was highly irregular, some days at 5pm, some days none, and some days in the evening as it should.
- resturant staff during breakfast is highy professional, though in some way very tense as supervision by managers is very tight which results in a somewhat forced and unnatural service that does not feel authentic. Some mornings I have been asked over 20 times whether everything is fine, which is somewhat artifical.
- pool staff is blunt and seems to have received instructions to sell food and beverage, consequently focusing service on those guests spending at the pool; the difference is service was obvious.
Apart from these critical notes, JW Marriott remains a top notch hotel!
