The hotel has all the charms of heritage and history of world celebreties visiting and staying..
still has a deep swimming pool.. the old and elegant service staff.. check in was superb.. and so the personal guest relation manager.. excellent variety of restaurant and at a reasonalble price.. the best part was to have a HIGH TEA at 1600 hrs in one of the restaurants.. with a view to harbour.. i never knew .. mumbai has so many yatchs.. it was like i was sitting in Greece or France.. too good..an experience.. my daughter enjoyed every moment..

Room Tip: Sea view room.. above 7 floor

“Calm in a crazy city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2012

The Taj Mahal Palace totally lived up to our expectations. Incredible interiors and beautifully grand staircase. Try to stay in the Palace if you can, well worth the additional cost. The Tower looks completely out of place to the rest of the hotel stuck on the end.

Get to the pool in the morning and a sun bed should be easy to come by. Choose the right hand side as this starts off in shade but keeps the sun through the afternoon. The pool staff are really helpful as are the staff at the spa..

The only thing that lets the hotel down is the service by the pool in the late afternoon and early evening for food and drinks and the afternoon tea that we booked was a bit of a shambles. The food is excellent but it could do with a bit of more organising.

We had dinner at Masala Kraft one night and although expensive it was a great experience. Order the set menu so that you can sit at the chef tables and have them cook and explain each dish to you.

Mumbai is a crazy, busy city and so it was so nice to come back to the calm, cool interior of the hotel each day and relax.

Not sure I would go back to Mumbai but if so I would definitely stay at the Taj again.

Room Tip: Choose the Palace for the authentic stay.

“Still excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2012

We have stayed here several times in the past and this time they surpassed themselves! We stayed in palace wing which I just love and whilst there it was my birthday (which they had picked up when they look at your passport) and had decorated the room with balloons when we returned from dinner- followed on the actual morning by a wonderful looking cake! As we were flying off I asked that the cake be given to the staff who are excellent. Lovely lounge in Palace wing with beautiful books to browse along with daily papers etc. Service was very good check in very efficient as was the checkout. One of my favourite hotels in the world. Location is great for exploring the area as well.

Room Tip: If you want the sea view in Palace wing which is fun need to be aware that is road side so go as hig...

“Best city hotel so far!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2012 via mobile

Undoubtedly the best city hotel I have ever stayed at! The hotel arranged for my airport transfers which were smooth and effortless. The drivers provided me with some interesting information about the city and pointed at the various sites on route! The cars were spotless and the drivers curteous!

Upon arrival at the hotel, a member of staff was waiting for me at the entrance and accompanied me to my room. I got upgraded from the tower wing to the newly renovated palace wing! It is truly palatial! I have never seen such an elegant mix of modern with traditional, but the Taj pulls it off! There is a button for everything you need in the room!

The rooms are big, with large windows, a cooridor, plenty of storage space and an oversized bathroom with a large tub and a separate shower! Plenty of complimentary amenities are provided including shaving and dental kits.

Walking along the corridors of the palace, you can easily get lost but that just adds to the charm! There is an impressive central atrium with stairs covered by gorgeous Persian carpets.

There is also a number of award winning restaurants serving meals all day - if my stay was longer, I would have tried them all!

The place caters for a mixture of customers with none being out of place - businessmen, leisure travellers, families, couples!

I highly recommend an upgrade to the Palace Wing - it is truly spectacular!
