“Delightful Diggi”

We stayed at Diggi Palace whilst participating in one of the Wonderful Workshop events. It was mid January and very cold! Little blow heaters were provided and they kept the rooms passably warm but there was no heating in the restaurant which was depressing and freezing! However the rooms were all clean and very comfortable, although the bathrooms were basic with grey looking towels and limited hot water. The hotel feels like an indian palace and the family who own it are rightfully proud of their heritage. If they could just get some new towels, I suggest not white ones, which will turn grey again, and brighten up and heat the dining room, things would be vastly improved. The gardens are very pretty and a delight to sit in away from the bustle of Jaipur. Wilson keeps everything running smoothly and is very helpful.

“Value for money!”

We stayed at Diggi during the Jaipur Lit Fest and we couldn't have made a better choice. First off, we were right there. You stepped out of your room and onto the Front lawn, which was the venue for some of the best sessions of the festival. We had opted for the delegate package which included all 3 meals and were very happy with the generous spread offered at lunch and dinner (including the free drinks!) The service is efficient. Wilson, the manager, ensured we were comfortable and took care of every small detail, inspite of the fact that those 5 days were definitely the busiest days of his life! All in all, it was a pleasant stay, and being a family run property, it has that nice personal touch that makes all the difference. I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor can be noisy (during the festival at least). So opt for rooms on the first...

“This is the real ,Jaipur”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We stayed at Diggi Palace for the fourth time in January 2012, and there is nowhere else in the city we would sooner stay. Situated close to the Old City, in a secluded spot, it's old palace buildings complete with durbar hall stand around a tranquil central garden, a quiet and refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle - not grand, but with just the right relaxed atmosphere. Its delightful and hospitable owners believe in a hands-on approach, and are always available to help, inform and educate their guests, their friendly and helpful staff are all drawn from villages in their country estates, and even the vegetables you eat are grown on their own farms. The daily running of the hotel is overseen with quiet efficiency by the ever patient yet vigilant Wilson, ensuring that it caters sympathetically for Europeans without compromising the indian spirit. The owners are gradually making it Jaipur's true cultural centre, with craft workshops, concerts of inspirational indian classical and folk music, and, of course, the annual Jaipur Literary Festival. Unequivocally recommended.

“Beautiful, quiet, comfortable, but pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Stayed for 3 nights over New Year in a beautiful and very spacious "palace" room with a charming balcony. The place was definitely on the comfortable side, with a good bed, large bathroom, very decent breakfast and overall good service. The garden was beautiful and very pleasant to enjoy a cup of tea away from the busy streets of Jaipur, yet only two steps from the old city. The main downside of the Diggi is the tariff. It is definitely on the expensive side, services such as laundry and internet are awfully overpriced (about 3 times more than other places we've stayed at in India), and hand-painted postcards are being sold at the reception for way too much. They also charged Rs 1000 per person for a "mandatory" new year's dinner party which we thought was absolutely not worth such an amount, neither food-wise nor party-wise (expensive drinks were also not included). In short, if you are not too regarding about being overcharged or don't intend to use their extra services, this is a delightful hotel.

“Pretty good, but not for the independent traveller”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Rooms were nice, if a bit small for the price.

Big garden, perfect for sitting out with a drink or having a meal during the day, and a very pleasant change from the dust and noise of Jaipur town, although I wonder how much use you'd make of it in summer.

Food was tasty, if a bit too oriented to foreign palates. Nice staff. However, awful music in the restaurant, and if you're really unlucky, dancers too! There were several big groups staying when we were there, so it felt a bit crowded.

A bit tiring that the guy who keeps the room keys tries to get you to look at his paintings every time you pass!
