“Fatantastic 11 days in India”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

The GRT GRAnd Hotel took care of 11 folks traveling from the states and family in Chennai for my son's wedding. They became family. They took care of our every need and anticipated a few. The hotel is beautiful, centrally located, the restaurants are wonderful and the rooms are great. We used every facet of this hotel except the pool as it was being renovated.

We had several rooms on the 8th Floor, the grand club and it was so worth it. We got to know Pradeeb very well and had breakfast overlooking Chennai in the morning and cocktails and appetizers in the evening. We were treated like roaylty.

We also had 2 theme suites that were magnificent. Everyone spoke to you, made sure you were ok and even looked for a lost bag or two until we found them. Security was pleasant and you always felt safe. We in the states could learn alot about customer service from the staff at GRT Grand.

The restaurant "Anytime" was wonderful serving both western and indian food and we were lucky enough to be there for opening night at the "Azulia" turkish restaurant. Food and ambience was magnificient.

My son's traditional Hindu wedding took place in the center next door and they were wonderful. The decorations were amazing and the food and drink delicious.

We were able to store our extra luggage while we went to Kerala houseboats after the wedding and the hotel was so gracious. When we returned our luggage was in our rooms waitiing for us. It was amazing.

I am returning to India next year to visit my new inlaws and the only place I want to stay is at the GRT Grand Hotel

Room Tip: Get a room on the Grand Club floor and have access so cocktails and quiet breakfast. Pradeeb wiil ta...

“Felt like staying at home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

My in laws and I stayed at the GRT hotel during my wedding. We also had our wedding at the same hotel. The hotel and it's staff made sure that we all had a wonderful stay and made it feel like home. Each and every staff member was friendly and helpful. Mr.Arun raj at the front office was especially very helpful and accomadating. They knew our group and they made conversations with everyone. All of us left feeling like we knew everyone at the hotel and had built a great personal relationship.
The rooms were fantastic. Very comfortable and spacious. Again cannot write enough about the staff that made sure we all had a wonderful stay and time there.

“Good standard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2012

My husband and I spent the first three nights of our recent South Indian holiday here. We were given a newly refurbished room which was really great. We came back to the hotel for the night before we left and asked for the same room - which we did not get. The standard rooms are OK but definitely in need of refurbishment. The staff are friendly and the cofffee shop restaurant is good - excellent Indian and western buffet breakfast. There are some good Indian restaurants within 15 minutes walk (turn right from hotel) and the shop immediately opposite the hotel made my husband a great pair of trousers in 3 days.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room.

“Not for the explorer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2012

Nice enough hotel situated on a main road. Pricey for food, even the buffett, not sure about the other restaraunt serving Indian food, in the hotel as no prices on display but choice looked acceptable.

If you don't like heights then the lift is a not good as it is glass.

If you want to eat out there is a pizza hut across the road, turn right cross the road and head away from the other main road, sorry but not all day buffett, and about 10 minutes walk from here is a restaruant serving a la carte food which includes rice and noodles, along with Indian food compared to hotel food very cheap and clean - well we had no problems, a little past this is the KFC.

Breakfast is buffett and plentiful with a wonderful milk shake served.

As we were part of a tour we only used this as a 2 night base. Rooms were clean and spacious, did not have time to use the facilites.

The area behind the hotel is a bit like shanty town with a stream full of rubbish and dirt, does not impact on the hotel unless you take a walk out. Probably not the best for shopping/browsing, or for a choice of places to eat.

We experienced no problems with the service however all the rooms were not ready when we arrived and we had just come off an overnight flight.

“Grand Lobby, poor rooms.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

First of all, once you enter this hotel, it is REALLY impressive. Glitter and Glamour in the lobby, really nice aroma oil scenting the air and they really make you feel welcome there.

However, the rooms do not match the experience. Shabby, even dirty carpet floors, dirty windows and a very thin blanket. Some of the rooms face the opposite building and have no view at all. Sorry, this is not my idea of luxury.

The business center is nice. However, since the location is really good, you can get internet excess much cheaper outside. (Inside it is 150/hour)

The breakfast however is really, really good. It is one of the most impressive I have ever had. They have EVERYTHING, really. However, on the last day I got really sick just after breakfast and spent the rest of the day between bed and bathroom. I cannot say if it was really the breakfast, but I had not eaten outside the day before. So, after that, even the breakfast experience was spoilt for me.

So overall, not worth the money - I would not stay there again.
