We were only in this hotel for one night and it was fine. Very good location for visiting all the sights. No proper bedside reading lamp.

We stayed for a night, on a short getaway from Singapore. I decided to opt for the premier room instead of taking the usual deluxe room after reading other reviews. It was a good decision as we absolutely love the sunbed in the premier room! In fact, I fell asleep on it while watching the fireworks go off around the city from our 16th floor room.
However, though I was tempted to sleep by the window under the night sky, the bed was far too comfortable and enticing. We had 4 good quality pillows and a quilt that was excellent for snuggling under.
The bathroom was very spacious, and well-lit, with ample space at the wash basin for all our stuff.
We had breakfast in the morning, and it was a very good spread. We loved customizing our bowl of porridge with the spread of side dishes available. The waffles were great too, but make sure you wait for a fresh batch. They even gave us curry chicken, yum!
There is a mall just next to the hotel and we rather enjoyed the donuts at the Big Apple Donuts shop. Try the durian one!
Having stayed at the Holiday Inn the last time we visited Melaka, we though it'd be a good idea to stay at Equatorial this time. It's centrally located (most places of attractions are within walking distance), which was really good cause it means that you don't have to worry about being stuck in traffic (which can be notorious, on weekends especially)!
We only paid for the rooms, but Dataran Pahlawan and Mahkota Parade are nearby so finding food is not a problem.
We arrived early on Saturday morning, so I went to reception and asked if we could have connecting rooms and they were kind enough to accommodate our request and even allowed us to check-in early once they found out that our rooms were ready.
Only drawback with this hotel is the swimming pool. It's pretty much shaded by the building throughout the day, and this causes the water to be rather cool most of the time (it feels like your swimming in chilled water)! Even my kids refrained from being in the pool too long, and kids generally love being in water.
But for the location, definitely a must if you want to be close to all the major tourist spots in Melaka.
This is a great hotel. Its location, ambience and hospitality complete each other. I would definitely come again.
This is our first time staying at The Equatorial, as we had being staying at the Renaissance for the past few years, whenever we found time to visit Melaka. Renaissance was our choice previously and we stayed there on numerous occassions from premium rooms to VIP floors rooms, until the last time out, we had a bad experience with their F & B manager ( an Indian guy) who was not just snobbish but just plain rude and sacarstics. We do not deserve to pay good money for such services, so we changed.
We decided on Equatorial after reading its good reviews by most writers, and we had not being disappointed.
We booked a Equator Club room, for a night stay on 5th Feb, which enable us to check in at their club level at 21st Floor, away from the holiday crowd at the main reception. Check-in was under 3 minutes and we were in our room (1724) within 8 minutes of our arrival plus time for parking at basement. It seems that Equator or Club rooms were located at end or corner units on most of the floors. Our room is big and reasonably done up. But the main plus point, are the 2 balconies available. Both gave us different views of the city of Melaka, ocean, town, malls, roads, pools...we can see it all from our room. The club lounge was very nice and quiet exclusively. The staff manning this lounge were all very friendly, polite and accomodating, food serve are very tasty... sandwitches, local & western pastries plus never-ending flows of fruit juices, coffee/tea, beers, red/white wines..was very welcoming....... much unlike our choice of previous years, my wife and I joked that we should thanked the F&B guy from Renai....
