“Nice high rise hotel on beautiful sugar sand beach.”

I just stayed at the Island House while attending a convention in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Its a very nice hotel situated on gorgeous beachfront on the gulf. Pros of this hotel: its excellent location on a beautiful stretch of beach, Icomfortable, each room faces the gulf and has a balcony, the staff is nice. Cons: no gift shop or store on property, no hot tub, although there is an outdoor pool. The restaurant is only open for breakfast and lunch so there is no room service in the evening. In would classify this as a very nice no frills hotel.

“The view is great, but the rooms are not!!!”

We were there during Labor day weekend. Upon arrival the insude looked non modern and like it was going down but decided to stay. When we arived we thought it was humid b/c of the coast and tropical storm Lee. Overnight our room starting leaking really bad!!! They came looked and said there was nothing they could do becasue other rooms were leaking or occupied. So in the mornning we called again and said we have to have another room becasuse this s unacceptable (leaking on beds and had buckets full of water). When we changed rooms we knew our 1st room was bad becasue the air was nice, not humid and didn;t smell like mildew. I asked if they knew our room was bad at 1st and they gave us the run around. The last straw was when we got ready to check out our rental car was damaged by the hotel's lawn chair that was picked up by tropical storm lee. Not only was our car messed up but about 8 other cars by this 1 lawn chair. It was clearly the hotels chair but they said they are not repsonsbile for damaged caused by the storm. I would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The lower the level the less problems you will have with leaks.

“Overpaid for a crummy hotel room.”

The hotel exterior resembles a prison. The lobby is ok. The rooms are dated and dirty. The sheets were not the cleanest. The bathrooms were awful. The water in the shower did not drain and the shower curtain had some sort of black soap scum/mold, whatever the case it was disgusting. We only stayed here because we were part of a wedding party. We defintely would have stayed somewhere different if we knew what a dump this place was going to be.

“nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

we stayed here b/c a family member had previously stayed and had a great experience. we also came b/c we got free concert tickets with our stay. upon check-in they had my name wrong and made it difficult to check-in. when i asked to upgrade our room(willing to pay more) i was told i could not b/c of the ticket deal. why would you not want to make more money? whatever... there was NO air in the hall ways to the rooms and someone had to help you with the carts. i then felt the need to tip for something i wanted to do myself....the pool was nice... room views were nice...you do have to pay for beach chairs/umbrellas....for the money could have been some extras...breakfast? coupons? complimentary things?

Room Tip: the executive suites are on the ends of the building and have the best views...five or six windows...

“The view compensates for other problems”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

The main thing going for this hotel is that all the rooms face the ocean. The big picture window provides a wonderful view of the beach/ocean. The bathroom really needed a good cleaning and mold removal. There was a lot of soap scum left in the shower soap holder, and there was a lot of mold in the tile of the floor and walls. The sinks were not very clean either. The beds were very comfortable-sheets very soft and linens appeared to be very clean. I am unsure if the ocean views would be enough to make me return.
