We stayed at Waldorf Astoria Shanghai for four nights between Dec 27-31,2011. The Waldorf Astoria is top notch luxurious hotel, very centerally located right on The Bund.
The spacious and elegant rooms, with an overall sense of grandeur, stunning views on upper floors, a beautiful all marble bathroom, separate walk in closet, have the latest technology eleganty and very practically blended in. The two jars on the dresser, one filled with cookies and the other with mini chocolate balls (one day white, the other day dark chocolate) and refreshed every day was a pleasant and surprising gesture. The fruit platter was refreshed everyday, with a different kind of fruit each time. Attention to detail was present and obvious in every corner and service of this perfect hotel.
The breakfast which was easily one of the best we have experienced in all of Asia, The excellent bar, diner choises and quality, the personalized and elegant service really impressed us.
This is definitely one of the very best hotels we stayed so far…

Simply put, we have never experienced this level of luxury combined with highly attentive, yet discreet service. My wife and I recently spent a long weekend in Shanghai (traveling in from Beijing) and chose to stay at Waldorf Astoria over other luxury properties, mainly due to location.

It's hard to add much more than what everyone else has shared, however here are a few facts/thoughts:
- Facilities: attention to detail at every turn, from crown moulding to wall coverings to art work to the seamless integration of technology
- Service: highly attentive, and very discreet - unlike some Asian hotels that 'smother' you with service; extremely thoughtful
- F&B: breakfast was incredible, with a diverse selection of Western & Asian foods, fresh flavorful fruits (not a given in China!) and delicious pastries. Long Bar was a great treat with live music, incredible cocktails, and tasty food.
- Location: best in Shanghai. Period.

Bottom line: WA on the Bund is well worth the money (or Points).

Pitch perfect restoration of the heritage clubhouse on the Bund. Tower rooms are luxuriously comfortable with over-the-top bathrooms. Superb integration of high tech into warmly elegant traditional decor. Welcome respite from designer trendy. Highest floor views toward Pudong are stunning. Lavish breakfast buffet. We stayed three times in 2011.

We have stayed at numerous Hilton properties, and this is one of the very swankiest. One might call the decor completely over the top - marble floor to ceiling, sense of grandeur throughout, from the lobby to the restaurant to the executive lounge to the bedroom. The bathroom represents a microcosm of the luxury of the entire hotel: Ferragamo toiletries, TV embedded behind the mirror, lots of marble, toilet lid pops up when you open the door / seat is heated / electronically outfitted. We had a large room with a view of Pudong, gorgeous during the day and at night. Breakfast buffet was insane - freshly baked goods, fruit of all different kinds, eggs to order, Asian breakfast choices, and it goes on and on. Mild disappointments: executive lounge, while beautiful, had limited snack items (I do love my snacks in Hilton executive lounges), and the gym is surprisingly not terribly well outfitted, although the staff is very attentive, as they are throughout the hotel. I will certainly be back.
