“Good stay - but can get better for your money in Shanghai!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

On a purely practical level I cannot fault this place,

I have stayed here twice now and enjoyed both of my stays, my first stay I went for the Pudong view room, which had the great view that was promised, and was on a very high floor, beds are comfortable although not gigantic, and bathrooms have a nice rainfall shower - however, the toilet in our room broke, had to get it fixed 3 times, the 4th time this happened I went down to reception and delivered the complaint personally, to which the general manager on duty at the time (Frank) accompanied me to my room and offered an upgrade to a Junior Suite for the trouble, the situation was handled well, but moving all of our things is a hassle and the toilet shouldn't have broken in the first place, moreover, more care should have been taken to record how many times the same problem had occurred, this is a lack of attention to detail which in a five star hotel is a little below standard.

Second stay went for a twin room, was nice but a little rough around the edges, furniture is showing some signs of wear but on the whole a very comfortable place to stay within Shanghai, the location is fantastic, right on the Nanjing Road and People's Square, the leisure centre and facilities are well maintained and a nice place to be, and if you do get a chance, the bar at the top of the hotel boasts some incredible views across Shanghai's skyline in both directions.

Having now stayed in quite a few hotels in Shanghai, I would personally not choose this one again, I believe there are nicer hotels for the same money which offer a slightly more personalised service (take the hotel across the park for instance), but if you are looking for a good base to explore the city, you probably can't go wrong with this one (as long as your toilet works!).

Room Tip: If you are looking for a twin room perhaps look elsewhere

“Good location and good room layout”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2012

The location on Nanjing Road East is great, just minutes walk from the Bund. So it is nice for a evening walk around the place to feel the old Shanghai.
I love the room layout, though smaller than usual 5-star at 34 sq m. But the designer was smart in removing the walls of the washroom and put in separate glass cubicles for the bath+shower and the WC. Although it seems odd to have the wash basin in open area, it is well designed.
What I love most is the work desk face the full glass window. It was quite pleasant to look up to take a eyeball rest in between work.
The breakfast buffet is good selection of East and West. My only complain is that the counters are placed so far apart, you have to almost walk half the big restaurant to visit the different counters. Also, I still wonder why did they have artifical trees with low branches between tables. I was originally shown a table next to a tree. My head almost reaches the lowest hanging branch though I am very short at 1.5x. And this is a super high ceiling floor, they could have had "taller" trees!
This is my second hotel in this trip as I could not find continuous nights. I was frustrated by the trouble to check-out and check-in. But the location compensated for it.

Dear Guest,

We are pleased to hear you love the design of our guest rooms and appreciate the working space available.

The location of our hotel is always a benefit to guests as they can reach tourist destinations by foot. Especially to the magnificent Bund area.

“Great hotel in Shanghai”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

This hotel is well located near People Square with easy access to the Bund (5 minutes ride by taxi).
The view from the bedroom was amazing thanks to the floor to ceiling windows.
Breakfast choice is excellent though very busy sometimes.
Facilities (gym and swimming pool) exceeded our expectations.

“Another Great Brunch in Shanghai”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We used to go to another Brunch location in Shanghai but have in the past few months been drawn to a fresher experience.
The food is great and for me the roasted meats are the best. The choice is wide and the drinks, cocktails, champagne and shots delivered in a unique way ! are all part of the experience. The music is mixed fresh by the DJ and very different. I am looking forward to warmer weather and sitting outside on the terrace.
But as always its only as good a the company you keep....
