First of all, I can't recommend Hotel Cerro Azul enough. It isn't really a "hotel," it is more of a boutique B&B. I doubt you can find anything of this quality or uniqueness for the same price in La Fortuna. It is very impressive- you get the privacy, beauty, cleanliness, amenities & hospitality you would expect at a place four times the price.
This was the first place we stayed on our trip to Costa Rica and I was heartsick for Cerro Azul & the hospitality and professional demeanor of Alvaros, the owner, and his family after we left.
In the bustling town of LaFortuna, Cerro Azul offers a peaceful slice of paradise even though it is only a long walk from downtown. There are four villas, each with a private back porch with chairs, a hammock, and a view of lush greenery and a horse pasture. Costa Rica at its most beautiful! The front porch offers a view of the epic Volcan Arenal!
The beds are incredible comfortable, the showers have hot water, and the A/C is great. The rooms are exceptionally clean and well-cared for. The grounds are well-maintained and landscaped beautifully.
Alavros's wife offers a "typical" Costa Rican breakfast that is an unmatchable deal at $5 a person. HIGHLY recommended!!!! The breakfast is absolutely delicious- I never again had a breakfast so good in the whole country! You can tell it is made with love.

Alvaros is extremely helpful and can book whatever adventure you want at a discount (below published prices) because he is a local. I would recommend booking with him and avoiding the hassle of the tour agencies in town that are just out to sell you anything.
Chatting with Alvaros we learned about Costa Rican culture, his family, and the town of Arenal. If you have the time, I would suggest talking with him! With so many places in Costa Rica owned by Europeans, this is a great opportunity to get a local perspective.
You will notice a lot of people walking on the road past Cerro Azul from town to the La Fortuna waterfall, which let's you know you are in the right place! Definitely walk or drive to the waterfall. It is beautiful!
I want to thank Alvaros and his family for the luxurious villa & the wonderful time we had in La Fortuna. The special place they have created at Cerro Azul made it all more wonderful.More
