We absolutely loved our stay in hotel cerro azul. The cabins are modern, clean and very comfortable. The hammocks on the back porch are so relaxing and the area is extremely quiet and relaxing. We slept amazing every night! The hosts are wonderful and the breakfasts are worth every penny.

The issue is that the location is quite far from town with only one single restaurant in the area. That means that for dinner you best have a car or its 20 minutes brisk walk

In summary though a great place to stay and highly recommended.

We can't say enough great things about our stay. We stayed here in Jan 2012 for three days. Cabin was clean, refrigerator in room, free wi-fi, a back porch with hammock, table and chairs made our stay cozy and too short. One day it rained and the back porch with a view to the fields and horses was a great place to read and surf the web. The daily breakfast was excellent and inexpensive at $5.00 per person. The suggestions for local restaurants and tours was excellent and he helped us with independent reservations when we needed it. We will be staying here when we return to La Fortuna again.

We stayed for 2 nights to explore Arenal/La Fortuna and had a lovely stay here. Its a little out of town but its worth it. Big room, balcony and the sounds of the forest all around. You get a good view of volacano and aren't far from the waterfall.
Host was very helpful.

My husband and I stayed here in Jan of 2012. We stayed 2 night and it was a great value. 4 Private cabins are on the property. Ours had 2 queen beds, bath and a back porch with a hammock - VERY clean! PLUS - they have WI-FI in the rooms included. We were only staying 2 night so weren't going to spend any time at the hotel except to sleep so it was perfect for what we needed. Bring ear plugs if you want to sleep in because the birds will wake you. Breakfast was great and home cooked by the owner's wife (the best breakfast we have during our whole 2 week stay!). The hotel is right before you get into La Fortuna but don't think you can really walk to town. Great getting to know the owner! Went on an amazing hike (2.5 hours) at Arenal 1968($10 entrance fee) park and then did the Hot Springs at Tabacon ($60 entrance fee). Didn't need more then 2 days in Arenal/La Fortuna. Luckily saw the Volcano during our hike for about 30min! We heard the canopy tour was great from other people but had already done this in Quepos - we wish we would have saved it for Arenal though. Would stay here again - can't get that type of hospitality at a bigger hotel!

These are basic cabins in need of updating. There was a moldy smell that made it almost impossible to sleep. Only stayed one night and moved to El Silencio to be closer to activities. I do not know how this hotel received so many 5 star ratings.
