“totally recommend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

my partner and i had a really good two night stay here, was recommended by the place we stayed in while in buenos aires, really nice little hotel, clean, quiet, decent location, reasonable price, very good wine on offer, we found the staff really helpful even with our dodgy spanish....rooms were nice, hammocks in the garden were even nicer!

it's a small place and if you're looking to be waited on or for a big, luxury hotel experience then maybe not for you but if you're travelling around and want to chill from a great base in a lovely city then check it out. would love to go back.

“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2011

We stayed in the Red Wine Hotel for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Contrary to other reviews, we found the staff to be especially friendly and helpful and every request was dealt with immediately and effectively. The rooms are basic but comfortable and there was always plenty of hot water for showers etc. Breakfast was a little disappointing (toast, cold meat, cheese, fruit juice and coffee) but was perfectly adequate. The swimming pool was tiny and not too inviting with floating leaves etc but we were there at the end of the season. However, the courtyard surrounding the pool was a great place to sit and relax.

The location was perfect for us as it was "7 blocks" from the centre of San Rafael (8 AR$ taxi ride from the bus station) and was very quiet at night. The 15-20 min walk into town was no problem as there were various routes to take - all of which had interesting "features". If needed, there were several mini-markets nearby.

There are several trips to be taken throughout the region and the hotel staff will book these for you with door to door service. (Canyon Atuel was the best although involved a long day and do ask for a trip with the appropriate guide. We didn't and spent a fascinating day with 10 Argentinians trying to translate for us!).

The nearest resturants were in town and we preferred La Fusta (near juncion of Av H Yrigon and Av Moreno) because of the very friendly service and choice of food. There's also a wide range of cafes, bars etc to suit every taste - especially at night when San Rafael really comes to life.

In summary, the Red Wine Hotel is a boutique hotel situated in a quiet residential area but which has most of the necessary facilities - including free internet access. It does not have the large international hotel paraphenalia but a much more intimate feeling. We would definitely stay here again

Room Tip: Best rooms are Barbera and Pinot Noir

“Should not qualify as a "hotel"”

It's a reformed home, in an residential neighborhood, difficult to find. Cold rooms and NO HOT water during the night. Poor staff reception though they copied ALL our passports, etc. I would NOT stay there again.

“nice little hotel if a little cold”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2010

We stayed at this nice little hotel just a few blocks from the main drag. During winter the rooms seem to be cold no matter how much you try to warm them up as do the staff. They are helpful but a smile from time to time wouldn´t hurt.

The rooms are very nicely laid out and each are named after a different grape, we stayed in Pinot Noir I think. breakfast is the typical Argentine croissant and toast with fresh fruit so not a lot can be said about that. The hotel would make an ideal place to stay in summer or spring to visit some wineries or to visit the canyon, both are fantastic. Get a booking for both through the hotel, especially the wine trip as a man picks you up, takes you to 3 wineries then you rock up at someone´s house for a grand bbq with wine in a fabulous dining room with a fire.

This is just a great little place to stay, in a residential area, so it is quiet. Great service and good wine.
