Thip Residence is a boutique hotel, with lovely decor designed by the owners who built the place themselves. It is clean and airy. Our room was spacious, with a balcony that overlooked the beautiful gardens. They are currently building a swimming pool out the back too, although there are no disruptive building works going on.
The air con was very good and there was a TV in the room, as well as free bottled water each day which they leave for you in your fridge.
We ate in the restaurant a couple of times and found it to be excellent food and great value for money. The staff were so friendly and very attentive. Each morning when we chose where to sit for breakfast they would ensure we had a fan beside us, and were great when we enquired about tours or local places to visit.
It's also a brilliant location in terms of getting taxi's or tuk tuks because it's very close to the pier, so you can tell the driver to head there instead of be faced with an awkward conversation about what place you're staying on in the middle of a random country road! We also hired their own motorbike from them for a day at a fantastic rate, and explored the local beaches and coastline.
It was a wonderful place to relax and take in that part of Krabbi. It was a great 'jumping off' point to go and do tours, or visit nearby places such as Ao Nang, Rayleigh, and the surrounding islands. You can get a long tail boat to Rayleigh from the pier (about 5 mins walk away). We did the 4 Island Tour (definitely worth doing) which Thip Residence organised for us - they used Green Planet who were excellent. We were picked up and dropped off at the hotel, and the tour guide spoke very good English, as well as giving us a great lunch.
There are a lot of mossies here, but that's because you are in a beautifully peaceful, green area, but as long as you are careful to apply mosquito repellant each morning and evening, and after a shower, you shouldn't get any bites - I suggest anything with DEET in it. We also just made sure our bedroom door was opened for as little time as possible, so if you're sensible you shouldn't have a problem.
We felt so relaxed and welcomed there that we booked an extra night before catching our boat to Phi-Phi (also arranged by Thip so we were collected at the hotel).
I'd definitely recommend this as a place to stay and have already been telling friends and family about it and urging them to go to Krabbi and stay at Thip!
