This was a beautiful hotel, everything about it was upscale. The room was clean, the bed was soft and comfortable. There wasn't any a/c but the window opened to let in the breeze, I was hot all night so I didn't sleep well and we could hear the sea gulls all night. They didn't have Wi/Fi which was odd for such an upscale place. The wharf was right behind the hotel and it was really nice with good food to eat. It was a wonderful place and would come back again.

Many of the reviews here already say it, but it is worth repeating: this hotel is very nice with a great location. The bathroom in the room was particularly large, which was excellent. Being in the historic downtown and close to fisherman's wharf made many places a short walk away. The free Monterey trolley stops just out front to take you up to Cannery Row and the aquarium. There are two reasons that I did not give the hotel five stars. First, the room did not have air-conditioning, which should be okay in the perfect climate of Monterey. However, leaving the sliding glass door open meant that we got to hear the seagulls at all hours of the day. With their screeching similar to a crying child, it did make for difficult sleep at times. Second, the flush toilets are the power flush type toilet. Thus, whenever you flush the toilet it is exceptionally loud. So loud in fact, that you can hear it when your neighbors flush their toilet too.

This is a strong 4-star spot. The location is super, on the coast very near the downtown, wharf, aquarium, ... lots to explore. The service for my stay was very nice. Room was clean. Conference food was very good. Concierge service is available and responsive. Restaurant is very good, and other very nice choices are within walking distance. If you are a runner or walker, you can run or walk along the beautiful bay coast path that is only a few steps outside the door. Really a nice place to explore.

One real standout for this hotel is their beds. They use mattresses made by "Monterey Mattress Company". I am not sure who they are (they advertise on a little card on the desk that one can purchase a Monterey Mattress after trying them out), but I can attest that the beds were absolutely the most comfortable of any hotel where I have ever stayed. Lots of high quality pillows too, which seals the deal for me. Comfortable beds when traveling are just a great surprise, never expected, and certainly not taken for granted!

Great hotel in an awesome location! We only stayed there one night but the staff was very friendly, rooms were nice and clean and the hotel is close to the wharf and Alvarado street. Helpful that parking was nearby.
