“'perfect location'”

We chose the Desert Hills because of its location and it was ideal. Very quiet but only a short walk to downtown palm springs. Its in a beautiful setting by the mountains in a nice residential area near the tennis club.
The room we had was very large with a lounge area and kitchen, the bed was so comfortable - with that and the quietness we had some of the best sleep that we had during our 16 day tour of the West.
The gardens and pool area are very pretty and well kept, unfortunately you do loose the sun by about 3.30pm because you are so close to the mountains.
Also I agree with another tripadvisor who wrote that it would be helpful to know where the supermarkets are. We found one supermarket but it did not sell any fresh fruit/veg/meat etc..? A shame as there is two lovely grills by the pool to use.

Also when we were there the street lighting all the way down the road was not on- not sure why that was but did make it a bit difficult walking at nightime - might be a good idea to take a small torch with you.

Overall what was meant to be a 2 night stay ended up being a very relaxing 4 night stay !

My husband and I stayed at the Desert Hills over New Years Weekend! After having gone to Palm Springs MANY TIMES over the years, this is absolutely one of our Top Hotels! This hotel is extremely clean, modern retro and close to everything we love! While this was our first stay here I can assure you that it definitely will not be our last! BRAVO DESERT HILLS!!

“Relaxing hotel in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2010

My husband and I spent three nights here to celebrate our anniversary. The Desert Hills is within walking distance of downtown, offers free parking and has a peaceful, laidback vibe.

We stayed in room 15, a studio with a spacious bathroom, comfortable king bed, small living room, kitchenette and private patio. We slept well and enjoyed being able to eat breakfast at the cozy dining nook or patio before starting our day. The housekeeping service was great and changed our bath and pool towels daily.

The pool and jacuzzi are inviting, and the other guests were mostly quiet couples. Because the property is located against the gorgeous hills, the pool area is covered in shade by 3 p.m., so it's not a good spot for sunbathing late in the day.

A couple areas for improvement: the speakers by the pool are set to a radio station with frequent commercials. it would be nice to hear some cool jazz or Rat Pack tunes while soaking up the Palm Springs sun.

The dishes, glasses and flatware in the kitchen were cheap and could use an upgrade. Lastly, the owner insisted on charging our credit card upon our arrival, instead of at checkout. We found this odd and rather off-putting.

Overall, we enjoyed our visit and would consider staying here again.

“Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

I traveled with my husband to a conference. The quiet and relaxed atmosphere at the Desert Hills, was wonderful, after spending the day at a conference in the Renaissance Hotel conference center, that was full of hustle and bustle. The hotel was at the base of the San Jacinto mtn, and night time at the pool or in the hot tub was a great way to end a day, looking at the night sky, and letting the mtn speak to you. If you want action, this is not the place for you, but if you want to be restored, you can't go wrong here. I was able to use one of their cruiser bikes, complete with lock and offer of helmet, to ride to the conference every day, freeing up the car for my husband to explore the great hiking this area has to offer. Nightly, rather than go out and wait for dinner, we used the gas grills located poolside, to grill up steak or salmon, and pair with a simple salad and fresh bread for a most wonderful dinner. This place is top of the line, and the host, Jim Baker, was most helpful, loaning a hiking book to my husband. Our room was spacious and had a fully equiped small yet quite functional kitchen. I can't say enough about Desert Hill Hotel. I definitely loved it.

“Would definitely return to this hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

I stayed here one night because the Orbit In was full. The folks at Orbit In not only recommended it, but made the reservation for me. I LOVED it. I'd definitely return, especially if I were staying for a longer period of time. It was so peaceful and tranquil and, as others have written, the room was big and comfortable. Plus, a FULL kitchen and two poolside BBQ grills. This would be a terrific place if you want to get away for several days or, if you want to gather a group of friends for a getaway. You could do it very affordably because of the ability to cook your own meals. There appeared to be a large group of people who all knew each other staying there the night I was there. Location is super convenient to downtown Palm Springs.
