great for a family trip. Each unit has it's own entrance. The hotel offers free breakfast, internet and free parking. The sofa bed is great also. Great price, however the pool in outdoor, so my family couldn't use it because the weather wasn't at it's best. Still, I would stay there again. We came the day there was 2 busses of japanese students, so breakfast line was long. Overall great.

Utilitarian - That's a positive comment! I have stayed at the Torrance Residence Inn many times and recommend it. It is Utilitarian in that it is designed well for eating, sleeping & working. The rooms are functional and include everything that is needed: full kitchen, dinning area, high definition TV, nice comfortable beds, large desk & fast Internet. What more could you want? How about free breakfast (that is fair) and free dinner two nights a week (it used to be more). (They also stopped the free popcorn - bummer.) It is conveniently located near shopping, restaurants and major businesses. Also, the staff is very efficient & friendly as with all the Marriott properties.
Now for the only negative, it is Utilitarian. It is a bland hotel in a bland area. When I am there I feel like I am in a very efficient apartment. It certainly is not a resort hotel. If you are looking for convenience, productivity and sleep, this is the place. If you are looking for something else, you will be unhappy.

As first time visitors to LA for a family break we were anxious to get a nice hotel in a decent location which gave us easy access to Hollywood (Universal etc) and Anaheim (Disneyland). Eventually decided on the Residence Inn Torrance due primarily to the location and cost - and after a fantastic 5 day stay we could not be more pleased with the decision. The location was perfect, just 15 minutes from LAX, 5 minutes from the freeway (Hollywood 40 mins North, Disneyland 40 mins South), and only 5 minutes from the splendid Pacific beach scene (where we rented bicycles at Hermosa Beach to ride the coastal bike lane to Venice beach). The Inn itself is more of a mini-resort with a main reception, pool, tennis/basketball court and an acre of semi-detached apartments. Our 'penthouse' apartment was a two floor arrangement which had a main bedroom with en suite, open plan lounge/kitchen and a loft bedroom (which our two daughters aged 12 & 10 absolutely loved !!). Room decoration was unspectacular however the rooms/linens/utensils were spotless and could not be faulted. Minor issue with internet access - had to physically connect my netbook as couldn't get wireless. Pool was of adequate size for lounging in between trips. Breakfast was included and of very good quality with several hot/cold choices and Waffle station was a big hit. Dining area could get busy depending on time of morning however there is additional seating outside as well as the option of taking everything back to your apartment. The staff were extremely helpful and polite and provided maps and information on most of our enquiries. We didn't see too much of the immediate area apart from a couple of restaurants and the supermarket across the road however the neighbourhood seemed well maintained and clean and we felt safe at all times. Overall, if you are visiting LA and planning a driving see-all experience as we did, then the Residence Inn Torrence is an excellent option due to it being clean, friendly, low cost (which includes breakfast and parking), and in a great location.

The Residence Inn Torrance was a good location- walking distance to Del Amo Fashion Center. The room was pretty clean, although not faulting the place but I found an odd smell in the room- didn't bother me that much. The staff are so friendly and willing to help. The sports court is good as I played tennis. Pool is OK, not too bad. The breakfast and social nights are great... had a nice stay.
