My partner and I vacation in NM a lot and arrive in DEN at DIA Intl Airport. Normally we drive all the way down to Taos,NM, but this time decided to stay en route to check out Colorado Springs.
As my partner still smokes we looked for a smoking establishment. Econo-lodge offered smoking rooms at an expensive rate of $79 for this venue blocks from Colorado College. On arrival we noted a '50s looking run-down, dirty, unsafe, and transient filled motel. Everything was thread bear. There were even sketchy people hiding in the shadows smoking something. The front desk clerk was positive enough and helpful. The exhaust fan in the bath didn't work, the window screen was torn, and walls had holes in them! The morning 'free' breakfast was sparce and not inviting. The management seems not to notice any of this.
It is our considered opinion that CHOICE hotels should bull-doze this hotel and rebuild it. It is very near down town and blocks from Colorado College. This should be a great place to stay for visiting families of students at the college. Instead, it is a dump, and not inviting. Also, the swimming pool is no larger than a rain puddle! There is free parking if you dare. Our advice, STAY AWAY!More
