We usually stay at a beach where there are properties all lined up along the beach bit this was such a nice, quiet place. 95% of the staff were friendly, happy, and made us feel welcome. The ferry runs constantly back & forth (you have to drive your car into the ferry which only takes about 5 min. to get to the island)--it is expensive but included for resort guests. Palm Island Resort is at the end of the island--for the 1st mi or so there are houses. There are many buildings, with about 4 units each. Each 6 or so buildings shares a pool (there are 4 pools maybe). Our pool did get pretty crowded on Sat. & Sun. but think since they were remodeling some units they had us all in the same area/pool area. There are many tennis courts--no one was really using but it was SO hot in August. The golf cart was included in our package but you can add one or just call the resort to transport you around. It IS pretty big so walking in the heat would not be fun.
Our unit was a 3BR/3BA and again, because of the remodeling of some units, we got upgraded to "Supreme" which was very nice--stainless appliances, double oven, touch screen microwave, flat TVs, multi-head shower in master, etc. We were pleased with the layout, decor, furniture, etc. #1524 It's patio was screened in (nice for bugs) and had a nice view, although another building blocked the sunset so we had to go out to the beach.
There is only 1 restaurant on the resort--I was not aware of another on the island at all. It was delicious, mostly, but pretty expensive and smaller portions. The general store on the resort has a few items (eggs, milk, wine, beer, mustard...) but outrageous prices--$6.99 for French's mustard, $15.50 for 6 Coronas, etc. They do have soft-serve and regular ice cream and a coffee bar. There are 2 grills down by the pools. They were busy--had a line to use them 1 night.
The organized activities were limited--maybe just in the summer. I saw a tennis clinic but it was HOT. The pirate show which was really just storytelling. A scavenger hunt to do on your own for a free ice cream. Kayak rentals for a fee. The paddle boards were broken. Bike rentals. Lots of wildlife--crabs, tortoises, sharks teeth.
