Just returned form our 7-day vacation on the mainland, Palm Island Resort which I think they call Harbourtown. Our unit was in the marina on the 2nd floor. Great view of evrything from up there. We loved our stay. We put in our kayaks 5 of the 7 days right there at the marina. It was somewhat of an acrobatic act watching us if the tide was low but we managed. We loved paddling the ICW which was a 1st for us. The wildlife was amazing! From Bald Eagles to Manatees and everything in-between. We packed our lunch each day and just took off. We loved Stump Pass. Beautiful. The water is so blue. We swam off the beaches on the island and the were pristine. Lots of shells and shark teeth at the point. We caught the ferry one day to the island and rode our bikes all around and had a picnic lunch. It was great. I loved how thoughtful they are about the nesting turtles and shorebirds. We became involved one evening in Englewood helping the Turtle Patrol release baby loggerheads after dark. We met them that morning on our kayak trip to Stump Pass and they invited us to help. Awesome. Always wanted to do that. One day I had a manatee breach up under my kayak which was scarey but funny after I realized it wasn't a great white! Another day we paddled to Don Pedro S.P.- It was a fun trip and also really nice. They ahve a shelter there so you can eat lunch at a table in the shade. Shower there to rinse off after getting in the gulf and swimming. Nice restrooms, also.
I loved our villa. It was just updated and so comfy. Everything was immaculate. I will someday come back here and highly recommend this place to everyone I know.

Stayed in a condo at the Marina. Loved it. We are sailors and even though we were offered an upgrade to the Island, preferred to say where the boats were. Still had access to pool and all amenities. Wonderful place for a getaway!! Leverocks Restaurant, right on the grounds!! Fantastic food and atmosphere. Looking forward to a return trip.

Ok, when we first arrived at the resort @ 2.30pm, I know check in is not till 3pm, but we didn't get into our room until 5.30pm. Not very happy.... 2nd Day - We rented a golf cart, the teenager girls were driving, when the golf cart stopped. So they decided to push it, it then took off by itself dragging one of the girls and dragging her and bruising her all the one side. The girls were all a bit shaken up. As the wheel of the golf cart could have ran over her head. And yes we have witnesses that worked on the island. No call from management to ask if the girls were ok. NOTHING.. Day 3 - Rented a pantoon boat from Allure Boat Rental - Would recommend.. The girls had a wonderful day.. Saw Manatees and Dolphins. Day 4 - Rented Kayak's for the girls, weather very hot but the kids had a great few hours. Have rented on the island before outside resort also. Island is great, kids always seem to have a wonderful time. Also CJ at Rum Bay Bar great. Would recommend - they need to service golf carts more often.

We usually stay at a beach where there are properties all lined up along the beach bit this was such a nice, quiet place. 95% of the staff were friendly, happy, and made us feel welcome. The ferry runs constantly back & forth (you have to drive your car into the ferry which only takes about 5 min. to get to the island)--it is expensive but included for resort guests. Palm Island Resort is at the end of the island--for the 1st mi or so there are houses. There are many buildings, with about 4 units each. Each 6 or so buildings shares a pool (there are 4 pools maybe). Our pool did get pretty crowded on Sat. & Sun. but think since they were remodeling some units they had us all in the same area/pool area. There are many tennis courts--no one was really using but it was SO hot in August. The golf cart was included in our package but you can add one or just call the resort to transport you around. It IS pretty big so walking in the heat would not be fun.

Our unit was a 3BR/3BA and again, because of the remodeling of some units, we got upgraded to "Supreme" which was very nice--stainless appliances, double oven, touch screen microwave, flat TVs, multi-head shower in master, etc. We were pleased with the layout, decor, furniture, etc. #1524 It's patio was screened in (nice for bugs) and had a nice view, although another building blocked the sunset so we had to go out to the beach.

There is only 1 restaurant on the resort--I was not aware of another on the island at all. It was delicious, mostly, but pretty expensive and smaller portions. The general store on the resort has a few items (eggs, milk, wine, beer, mustard...) but outrageous prices--$6.99 for French's mustard, $15.50 for 6 Coronas, etc. They do have soft-serve and regular ice cream and a coffee bar. There are 2 grills down by the pools. They were busy--had a line to use them 1 night.

The organized activities were limited--maybe just in the summer. I saw a tennis clinic but it was HOT. The pirate show which was really just storytelling. A scavenger hunt to do on your own for a free ice cream. Kayak rentals for a fee. The paddle boards were broken. Bike rentals. Lots of wildlife--crabs, tortoises, sharks teeth.

Room tip: Building 15 was set behind the pool so our view was pool and beach behind it. I might prefer an oceanfront building to hopefully see the sunset from the patio.

Five perfect days at the ultimate family vacation spot! Relaxing, peaceful, and wonderful amenities. Loved the quick walk to the beach every morning to swim, go shelling and find shark teeth. We'll be back!

Room tip: We rented a standard beach villa, and it was perfect for our active family of 4 (two kids 12 & 8) but we weren't looking for a lot of frills. What we did get was clean, comfortable, well-equipped (we cooked all but 2 meals at the villa) and an easy walk to the beach and pool. Excellent value!
