“peaceful getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

The Blue Heron Inn is a secluded, peaceful getaway. The view of the marsh from our balcony was so relaxing. There were always birds at the feeders to watch. Our room was large and bright. Jan and Bill are excellent hosts. The breakfasts were delicious. We enjoyed Jan's french toast and fruit one day and special pancakes and eggs our second morning. The town of Darien is nearby with several nice restaurants. We especially enjoyed visiting the Harris Neck wildlife refuge. The scenery is beautiful and you can either drive through or ride your bikes. It's a wonderful flat bike ride. The Blue Heron Inn is a wonderful spot to get away from the bustle of everyday life.

“overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We stayed in the loft above the barn because we like places off the beaten track. No cell phone reception however which was a little scary. The tap water smells terrible. The owner's son showed up unexpectedly to change the oil in his car in the barn which really freaked us out. Not much going on in Darien but the history is interesting and the natural beauty worth seeing.

“Off the beaten path”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

On a business trip to South Georgia we stayed at the Blue Heron after checking the great reviews on Trip Advisor. We are so glad we spent an extra day. Jan and Bill are warm and welcoming. Our very large room had a great view of the marshes. It was great laying in bed looking out at the peaceful scenery and the many birds hanging out on the balcony. I couldn’t stay for breakfast the first morning but was told it was delicious. The potato pancakes for breakfast on the second day were delicious. We walked down to the dock and Bill, a retired scientist, gave us a lesson on the marshes ... the high tide, crabs, mussels, birds. This B & B is off the beaten path and is the perfect place to relax and unwind. We had a wonderful stay and will certainly return and visit Sapelo Island next time.

Room Tip: I recommend the rooms with the large decks looking out on the marshes or water (high tide).

“Hospitality par excellence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

We stayed for three nights in mid-December en route South, and enjoyed every minute. Don't come here if you want a walk to the nearest strip mall; this is a magically quiet place of warm but unobtrusive hospitality. Located on the edge of unspoiled tidal marsh, there are many opportunities for walking, kayaking; exceptional birding for all. Other guests spoke highly of a visit to historic Sapelo Island, a ferry ride away. We ate dinner at two fish camps which featured fresh, locally caught shrimp. The third night Bill and Jan hosted the local Chamber of Commerce holiday gathering and invited us to attend. We were fortunate to meet and talk with many of the local residents and to enjoy the warmest sort of Southern hospitality. The breakfasts were wonderful, and we will long remember the opportunity to meet and talk with Bill and Jan (and their friendly dog Sassy, who wanted to escort us on our walks). You will not be disappointed for an overnight, but stay longer for a more memorable experience.

“Bird lover's paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

The Blue Heron Inn was a stop over when we first visited there. It has now become a destination for us. We have visited four times. It is peaceful with incredible views from the deck off our room. The birds abound right on the premises and there is a wildlife sanctuary nearby offering many additional sightings. Jan and Bill are perfect hosts knowing just how much conversation is needed and when to leave their visitors to their own devices. The breakfasts are a delight. I can not give this bed and breakfast a high enough rating.

Room Tip: Each room has its own charm. Our favorite is the Shell Seeker as it has a king bed and opens on to...
