“A Charming Villa but Rude Management”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

My husband and I stayed in Stanza 3 on 12-31-11 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We arrived in the early afternoon to find our room ready for us. The room was clean, tastefuly decorated and had an attached bath with jacuzzi tub. We ate dinner at the on-site restaurant. The dining room was lovely with a fire going in the fireplace. The food was good but not great. We were especially looking forward to breakfast the next morning, which we had read in other reviews was very good. Breakfast is advertised as being from 8-11 on Saturday and 8-1 on Sundays. We were told it would be 8-1 the next day upon check-in. When we went downstairs for breakfast the following morning (1-1-12) at 10:05am we were told that the restaurant was already closed and the server had been sent home early for the holiday. This was a huge disappointment to us and in my opinion, made our room very over-priced considering we were at a bed and breakfast and received no breakfast. My husband called to contact management regarding our issue and recieved no call-back. When he called again, he got a rather rude manager stating that it was a holiday and would "get back to us once he talked to his staff." It's been a week now and no call back. Even though the building itself was charming, we will not be returning to the Villa Inn.

“OUTSTANDING. A MUST DO.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

This was my first time at a Bed and Breakfast. My girlfriend surprised me for my birthday. I am very very picky! This was absolutely wonderful. My best advice to you, is to walk in, relax and enjoy this wonderful experience. We stayed in Stanza 4 which has the fireplace.

We arrived at 3 pm and they delivered our sparkling turndown but before we stopped to enjoy that we toured this historic building and took it all in. What a wonderful Italian Villa, right in the heart of Indiana.

I Decided that when i walked into the Castle like entrance i was going to take it all in and enjoy every minute.

After our tour we enjoyed the sparkling turndown, then relaxed on the rooftop terrace. Then it was off to dinner.

The food was wonderful, they brought out warm bread to munch on then we started with the Antipasto and i got a cup of the Tuscan Chili, I Love Chili and this is now one of my favorites. I had the chicken Parm for my main course, very very good.

For my Birthday they delivered a big piece of Tiramisu, wonderful.......

Then off to the room for the evening, we opened the windows to enjoy the cool fall Indiana weather, slept in and didn't have time to enjoy breakfast.

I wish i had a couple more days to take in the spa and try some other dishes!

The staff was very friendly and accomodating.

Parking in the rear is very safe and convenient.

My girlfriend knows i read trip advisor and was concerned with the bad reviews, after reading some of them and experiencing this wonderful place, well, those people are nuts!

I want to return some day, if i can't spend the night, i will definately dine there in the near future.

Room Tip: If you are going to do it, do it right, Stanza 4, Bring matches for your candles.

“Excellent romantic evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2011 via mobile

We had a very nice Thursday night stay at the Villa. It was quiet and romantic. We went out to one of our favorite restaurants and then came back and played backgammon on the balcony. The building is beautiful and the upper deck is very nice. Our room was well decorated. Breakfast was included and the French toast was outstanding. Overall a very nice romantic evening. Highly recommend.

“Great Service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2011

My husband and I stayed here for a night away from the kids, we loved it. Great service, beautiful home, spa & restaurant were wonderful too. Deep tissue massages were one of the best we've received. Only thing that did not meet or exceed our expectations were the water pressure/temperature & the quality of the robes.

“The Villa is Fabulous!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2011

My friend, Lorie, and I stayed at The Villa May 20, 2011 for a "girls' spa weekend." It was fabulous!!

The moment I walked into the Italianate Castle styled building that is The Villa, I knew this was no ordinary bed and breakfast. The entry way was a beautiful archway with a heavy wooden door that was open and inviting. The reception area took my breath away with its soaring, arched ceiling in blue. Everywhere I looked, there were tapestries, wall scones, and other authentic Italian touches that made me feel that I had just walked into a villa in Florence.

The Manager, Ryan Selby, checked me in early as I had arrived before my friend. The check in was fast and easy, and before I knew it, I was being escorted up the stunning stairway, past the leaded glass windows, to our suite, Stanza 4. Ryan also showed the butler’s pantry outside our door where complementary soft drinks and snacks were available. That was a particularly nice touch.

Stanza 4 was a lovely suite, with a separate bedroom with a king sized bed. The suite was decorated in a rich brick red color scheme, which was very soothing. Everywhere were nice touches, such as the letter from the owner thanking us for staying, to the huge Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable, with a new mattress, but is sagged towards the middle just a little. I told the owner, Jeneane, about it the next morning. She thanked me and said that she would have it looked at immediately. Also, it was a bit warm upstairs, and when we mentioned it to Ryan, he not only turned down the thermostat to the temperature we wanted, but showed me where it was in the hallway so I could further adjust it. That showed me that if something is wrong, they will do everything in their power to make it right.

We decided to eat in for dinner and were we every glad we did! We had dinner in the Hearth Room. It was terrific. We shared the wild mushroom bruschetta, which was very flavorful, then I had the Salmon Cucumber Coulis (excellent), and Lorie had the filet, which she could cut with a butter knife. I also tried the wine flight, “Pick Me, Squeeze Me, Make Me Wine.” It included three generously poured wines that were delightful. Our server, Trey was very attentive, and entertained us with stories of growing up in Singapore and other places in the Far East.

As this was a "girls' spa weekend," of course we had to have massages that evening after dinner. My massage therapist, Jamie, gave me a deep tissue massage that was one of the best massages I have ever had (and I have had monthly massages for years). She was very attentive to the areas that were tight, and was able to get several stubborn knots to release. At the end of the massage, I was so relaxed I was limp. I highly recommend her!! Jeff did Lorie’s massage, and she also said he was excellent.

As if that wasn’t enough, after the massages, we wandered into the cozy, wood paneled bar where the bartender, Kevin, saw to our every need. I tried the Port wine flight, and even though I’m not a big fan of Port, it was fun to try the various Ports from around the globe. We wanted to try a cheese flight, but didn’t really want the ones offered (yes, we are picky, or “high-maintenance,” as my husband says). Kevin went out of his way to suggest various cheeses that might appeal to us, and then had the kitchen make up a special cheese and fruit plate. And, even better, because a regular Friday special is to get a cheese or desert flight for half price if you purchase a wine flight, the special cheese plate was half off. After that, we stumbled to our luxurious Stanza 4 to collapse.

The next morning, breakfast was served out in the lovely courtyard beside The Villa, with a lion fountain burbling in the background. I had the Gran Marnier Brioche French Toast, which was made from bread backed on site. It was fabulous! It had a slight crusty texture on the outside and was light and fluffy on the inside. The flavor of the Gran Marnier came through very nicely, even with the maple syrup (which I think was real). Lorie had the Breakfast Panzolla, which she said was quite good. Trey was again our server, and took great care of us. We were running late for our spa appointment, and he not only got our food and drinks out to us promptly, but also notified the spa that we were running a little late but would be there soon.

We then headed to the spa where Lorie had a pedicure and a facial. Emerald, my cosmetologist, took me downstairs, and got me settled in for my treatments. She was very smooth and professional during the bikini wax, and did a wonderful job with my facial. She asked penetrating questions about my lifestyle and skin care routine, and then recommended the appropriate facial. When I asked about lash dyeing, for which I was not scheduled, she was able to do it right then and there. She was terrific and I highly recommend her, too.

All told, it was a wonderful experience, and one that Lorie and I intend to repeat. All of the staff at The Villa go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and taken care of.
