Just got back from our family getaway to Kansas City and Great Wolf Lodge. My husband just got back from being deployed so took our two small kids for some fun, family time with daddy. The kids had a wonderful time at the park splashing in the waterpark and all the slides etc. Also enjoyed the arcade and the shows that they offer there as well. Great Wolf Lodge I think has a great location next to some very good restaurants- T-Rex being one of them. Okay, not the best food, but entertaining place for kids. Also has an Olive Garden, Jazz, Hamburgers, and pizza places nearby as well as other restaurants. Nice outlet shopping too just minutes away. We also visited the Kansas City Zoo too which was awesome, but plan on staying at least 4-5 hours since set on 200 acres. The rooms at the Lodge are nothing to write home about, but they are clean and have a small fridge and microwave. And no bed bugs- we always check every place we go. But beware future stayers at this lodge- they have built a HUGE speedway next to it so check the calenders for race dates in the future. But here is where I really have a problem- big problem. Thank goodness we got to the Lodge earlier in the week and had some good quality time together with hardly any people at all- that is until the people from Lansing Kansas showed up. Lansing is about 14 miles up the road and the school district was out Thursday and Friday. A lady from Lansing in the elevator told us their are about 50-60 families at the Lodge from Lansing and they do it every year. My biggest beef is imagine parents/ adults walking around with alcoholic beverages everywhere in front of all the kids and the behavior of the parents seemed worse than their children! Four parents with me on the elevator going down to the water park were carrying a HUGE bottle of wine (10:30 in morning) could not get the cork out so put it between her legs and popped the top and walked right into the
waterpark carrying the bottle RIGHT past the lifeguards!! You are not suppose to bring in ANY outside food or beverage so is this the kinda morals Great Wold Lodge is promoting in their FAMILY waterpark? Intoxicated people in a FAMILY waterpark. Are they letting it slide because they reep so much money from these families year after year? The stories can go on- but it left the end of my vacation there with a bad taste in my mouth and disgusted- disgusted at the behavior of certain people and disgusted by the lifeguards and management's lack of involvement in adhering to the rules of a family establishment. Disappointing to say the least. One thing I have learned for sure- one, to never visit Lansing , Kansas and two to check all the schools in the surrounding are of holidays before I even think about venturing there again. Wake up management!! You are going to get swallowed up by bigger fish if you don't practice what you preach. Enough said. Goodnight.

“Decent for KC”

We've been to the Winconsin Dells, and there are some water parks up there that make this one feel a little small, but this is still a good get-a-way for a night or two. My boys, age 8 and 6 were actually done and ready to go home after about 4-5 hours there. We didn't do any of the other activities besides the water park.

I'd rate the room quality to be similar to your average Holiday Inn. It was most certainly larger than any Holiday Inn I've stayed in though, and the log furniture fits the theme well. The entrance areas are also nicely decorated in line with the hotel's intended theme.

We were in the waterpark on a January Monday (not a holiday) and it wasn't too crowded, any wait time for rides was either non-existent or very short.

Room Tip: We stayed in the "kid's cabin" rooms, there is a full height wall dividing the queen b...

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

First of all, I've been reading the other reviews and laugh at how pathetic the responses are from management. I don't give a crap how comparable you think your prices are to other places...it doesn't make your hotel a good value.
My husband surprised me with a night there for me and our kids. I'd been there before to visit guests, but never actually stayed the night. First of all, the waterpark is nice and a lot of fun. There was a bunch of sand in the kiddie pool???? There's not even sand in the waterpark. Plus, I don't need a 20 year old blowing their whistle at me when I try to take my toddler down the kiddie slide. I'm perfectly capable of taking care of my child and she wasn't quite ready to do it herself. One of the other lifeguards told our teenager that she couldn't leave the waterpark until she dried off, but she had been sitting on a towel at the table with me for 20 minutes and wasn't even wet except for some of her hair, all while dripping wet kids had been running all over the hotel. C'mon, really?
Probably my biggest complaint about the waterpark is the cost of a locker. $10!!!!!!! For a standard, can-barely-fit-my-stuff-in-it locker. And that's EACH. We were really ticked off about that since we had already been checked out and didn't have access to a room. That's a total and complete ripoff. I'm sorry, but lockers should be included in the exorbitant price of the room, which, by the way, was twice as much as the rate listed on the website.
Our other teenager spent a lot of time in the arcade and enjoyed it. The MagiQuest game looked fun, but wasn't worth spending $60 for a toddler. Maybe for a grade-schooler. The pajama story time was cute for our toddler and the snow machine was a really cool touch. (no pun intended) The pizza at the restaurant was pretty good. The highlight of our meal was our waitress. She was AMAZING!! I wish I could remember her name so I could give her some kuddos on here. We did not take advantage of other services at the hotel. The prices for the spa are really high. Even higher than at Chateau Avalon, a luxury bed and breakfast down the street. Our room keys stopped working a 1/2 hour or more before we even checked out, but the gentleman at the front desk was very nice about it and fixed the problem. Beware, we were told that because we were using a debit card instead of a credit card, even though we had it processed as a credit transaction, that we would not be allowed to have anything charged to the room. As someone who has worked in the banking industry, I can tell you that this is incorrect and either they have a really stupid policy or the lady at the desk didn't understand what she was talking about.
Now for my big complaint about the hotel. The quiet times, or what they call "hibernation times" are from 11pm to 7am. I completely understand that this is a kid-friendly hotel, and I'm all for letting kids run amok in the appropriate areas, but the wings of the guest rooms, which are separate from the main entertainment areas, are NOT appropriate areas for kids to be running and screaming at all hours of the night. It took me over 2 hours to get my toddler to sleep because of all the kids running, laughing, screaming and yelling down the hall at each other. Our room was 1/2 way down the wing, plenty far away from the main areas, and on the 4th floor. I don't know if the people in the room either below us or on either side of us were just going crazy or kids running around somewhere else, but the bed was literally shaking from all the banging around. This was after 10:30 at night. Management should have a strict courtesy policy to keep the clamor and noise away from the guest rooms. Of course, parents should be teaching their kids to have more respect for the people around them as well.
If I had a choice, I would stay at one of the other several hotels in the area and probably just pay for admission to the waterpark. You'll save yourself a lot of money and probably get a quieter, better night's sleep. Basically, good concept, fair execution.

“Great service and facilities”

We surprised our daughter with a one-night stay for her 5th birthday, and ended up being suprised ourselves with the excellent experience we had. At check-in, the staff was very friendly and made my daughter feel very special with a birthday button, frame, and special waterpark wrsitband. Because it was mid-week and the hotel was not very busy, they even upgraded us to a Kid Kabin, which amazed my daughter. The room seemed new because it was so clean and the furnishings were so well-maintained. The waterpark was great, and everyone in our family had a great time, including our 1-1/2 year old. The waterpark staff and lifeguards were friendly and very professional, and the rides seemed especially clean and well-maintained. That night we attended the "pajama story time" in the lobby, and our kids just loved it. There seemed to be special "touches" throughout the entire hotel that made our stay seem more like an "experience" than just a night at a hotel. The best compliment I can give would be that everything seemed "Disney quality" - meaning great attention to detail, staff that seemed to enjoy their jobs and appreciated us being there, and all the little (and big) things that make for a great family adventure. To the GWL management and staff - great job and keep up the good work. We will definitely be seeing you again!

Room Tip: We stayed mid-week so the hotel and waterpark were not crowded. The rates may have been a little ch...

We stayed at Great Wolf Lodge and had a great time. The indoor waterpark had the perfect temp for water even if you were not swimming you did not get chilled. The lifeguards where top notch in their jobs - very impressed at how serious they took their jobs. The hotel room was clean and updated interior and very comfortable. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: I imagine they are all nice
