I stayed at Big Foot a while back while travelling through Central America and thought it to be one of the better hostels I stayed at. My boyfriend and I stayed two nights - the first in a 4 bed/8 person dorm, which had bright, clean linen and lockable boxes large enough to store my rucksack. The private room on our second night had a thick mattress on the floor in a smaller space and was adequate. Kitchen was a little grubby and underequipped but perfectly fine. Bathrooms were fine and showers were imaginatively decorated, if a little dark. It was a bit noisy at night as there was a large group staying but not so bad that sleep was disturbed.
The hostel ran some trips - volcano boarding, local cock fights etc - at reasonable prices. The travel info on the noticeboard was excellent for independent travellers, eg. how to cross the border using local pick-ups, minibuses, how much to pay guy cycling you over bridge at Honduras crossing etc. Nice little TV and pool area too. Didn't bother with the bar as I found the staff a little aloof but there was a nice place across the road. My highlight was the pet tortoise who wandered into my dorm on the first morning!More
