“The hotel is classic, restored, but never expected the service to absent”

This hotel dates back to the 1920's with much history framed and on the walls throughout the hotel. We chose this hotel over the usual and customary chain hotels as they have a fitness room free to their guests. During our 3 nights no one ever entered our room to make up the bed, take away the dirty towels, or refresh our room until we complained on the last night and they could not apologize enough. A 9 inch snow fall kept the help from being there, however, someone could have checked on their guests. The dining room is fabulous, great food, and they did give us one night free for our troubles. We probably will not stay there again.

“would not stay if you intend on using the shower”

They have nice rooms comfortable beds, terrible service, terrible breakfast, and to top it all off stayed two nights could not use shower it would not drain you have to stand in muck up past your ankles, complained to the manager when first arrived and numerous times aftwards until check out, she did nothing, until I complained at the front desk in front of some other peopel checking in she credited my bill $40.00 on my $300 plus bill. I would have moved to another hotel but all hotels in the area were booked. Stayed at the Holiday Inn Express the next time I visited Sedalia, no problems there and 1/2 the price.

“Fun, Historic Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2010

We stayed here on our katy trail ride, nice old hotel. Paint is a little worn around the edges and the rooms were smaller than modern hotel rooms. Overall a pleasant stay and breakfast was nice. They had provisions for peanut butter waffles which are perfect for a long day on the bikes. Staff offered to keep the bikes in the basement.

“I Loved Hotel Bothwell!”

Hotel Bothwell in Sedalia, MO is such a Wonderful Historic Hotel.
It is Beautifully decorated with Old Time Charm. Even though it is over 90 years old, It has amenities that serve us in the current time period. Self service Laundry Area, Fitness Area, Business Center, Fine Dining at the Ivory Grille, Entertainment & Relaxation at the Ivory Keys Lounge. Hotel Bothwell even offers Dry Cleaning Send Out Service. I just returned from staying there for a week! Everything was perfect. Even the plants were kept dusted. I am a Very Picky traveler, I tend to look everywhere.... To my surprise, Everything was very clean. The service was GREAT.
I will gladly return to the Hotel Bothwell ANY chance I get! :)

“A charming, interesting, comfortable and well-managed historic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2010

My recent book, THE COSMETICS BARON YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF: E. VIRGIL NEAL AND TOKALON, features the Hotel Bothwell. The protagonist, Missouri native E. V. Neal, invested in its construction in 1927 and, in 1933, on a trip from his newly-acquired trophy chateau in France, stayed at the Bothwell, lecturing and visiting friends from his days as a student and professor at the Sedalia Business College.
On a fact-finding trip for the book two years ago my husband and I dined at the Ivory Grille but did not have time to stay at the hotel. On this trip to Sedalia we were able to spend the night at the Bothwell--and dine again at the Ivory Grille. Both experiences were very pleasurable.
Parking in the lot adjacent was convenient. The elegant Bothwell lobby, with its huge crystal chandelier, and the panelled ballroom on the mezzanine transported us back to the '20s and '30s. The young woman who checked us in was friendly, courteous and professional. Our kingsized room had a full and a half bath (with their original 1920s tile floors and basins), armoire, sofa and coffee table, and free internet connection. The room was large and attractively appointed; the bed linens were exquisite. The bed was very comfotable. Although the temperature outdoors was very hot our room was delightfully cool and very quiet. The towels were thick; the soaps and shampoo of high quality. The cost, about $100, was very reasonable compared to Chicago, where we had spent the last two weeks.
The Ivory Grille, in the hotel basement, is a separate entity. The chef, whom we remembered, is marvelous. Our dinner of rustic salad, hot rolls and honey butter, and sauerbraten was delectable. The wine was excellent. The portions were so large that we could not touch the dessert which came with the meal.
Business kept us from the free breakfast before we set off to the library the next morning so I cannot comment on that.
The General Manager, Marilyn Huntsman, whom we met the next day in the midst of her preparations for the coming State Fair, was welcoming and even chatted with us briefly about the hotel and its history. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Bothwell and recommend it to those traveling to Sedalia for business or pleasure.
