“Character & charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Lovingly restored and extended, the Saxe-Coburg oozes Victorian character & charm. We stayed in one one of the garden cottages and very much enjoyed sitting on our verandah overlooking the well kept lawns & beautiful garden. A refreshing dip in the pool was a real treat, too. Dick & Regina are superb hosts, welcoming, friendly & with an encylopaedic knowledge of the town & its surroundings. The rooms are well equipped, nicely furnished in period style & have the added benefits of DSTV & a bar fridge. This was our second stay at Saxe-Coburg & we're sure it won't be our last!

Room Tip: The garden cottages are spacious and, being located well away from the main street (which, in fairne...

“Wonderful B&B in Prince Albert”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

My wife and I unexpectedly turned up recently in Prince Albert on a motorcycle ride of the West Cape. The owners Dick & Regina were very nice is ensuring that we had a great place to park the bike....just the start of an excellent one-night stay! We booked a lovely suite in the garden, got unpacked, and with Dick's advice and tips, took a walking tour of beautiful Prince Albert. With a great room, a delicious breakfast (cooked by Dick, thanks!) and two very nice hosts, the Saxe-Coburg is the place to stay in Prince Albert.

Room Tip: The garden suite is well worth the minimal extra costs, its really nice.

“A Genuine Treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

This is an excellent B&B that is well run and set in a beautiful garden complete with swimming pool.

My wife and I stayed recently and found our hostess, Ann, to be very welcoming and pleasant company.

The rooms were spotless, with period furnishings and comfortable bedding. Satellite TV was an an unexpected bonus to keep up to date on the cricket with!

The breaksfast was full of variety and with no suggestion of an end to bountiful helpings.

We were also booked into the Cafe Galleria for dinner which was a pleasant surprise with excellent food and wine at a good price. The owner was both pleasant and knowlegegable with a menu that offered variety but didn't go overboard to the point of losing quality.

I would thoroughly recommend the Lodage and Prince Albert in general as part of your stay in South Africa.

“Delightful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

Overnight trip from Paarl along the stunning Route 62 (it really IS the Best Road trip in SA!!) to quaint Prince Albert. Didn't book accommodation as knew we would find somewhere. And what a find it was!

Knocked on the door and a refined lady answered. And said yes, that they had a Pool Suite available. Had a look and it was a done deal! The Suite, which has a separate living area and kitchenette (with complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits!), overlooked the gorgeous garden (with an old-fashioned bird bath!) and pool. Very comfortable bed with mosquito netting. Because it was still early Spring, we didn't need the air-con or fan. The bathroom was small but it served its purpose. Nice toiletries.

Breakfast the next morning was abundant and fab!

Hope to make a return trip in the not-too-distant future.

“The unexpected highlight of South Africa we STILL talk about!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2011

My friends and I stayed at this B&B while traveling from Capetown to Port Elizabeth. The cottages were beautifully decorated, clearly done with an eye for detail. Secluded with a private garden area, it is set back from the main street. We felt like we could unwind at home! The proprietors were friendly and knowledgeable, recommending what turned out to be the best restaurant experience we had on the entire trip! Made-to-order breakfast on the sunlit patio was a rare treat. Our stay here was so comfortable, my friends and I still talk of it as the highlight of our trip.
