We stayed here for 2 nights over the Christmas period. We were upgraded without asking to a superior room from a poolside room. The way it was done actually confused us and in the end we were left with no room for a couple of hours so we went to the in-house spa to get a massage while they sorted it out for us. They gave us vouchers to be used off peak so my wife and I availed of the offer.
We had our valuables and cash on us as we had not got a room at that point.
My massage was very good and upon leaving to the relaxation room afterwards I was surprised to find my wife really upset, almost crying.
Her treatment was a facial, and at one point a mask was applied. While the mask was on she heard her bag being opened - It's got a distinctive noise. She took off her eye mask and the girl turned her back and urged her to lie down. My wife is certain that she left the room with her bag as it was not on the counter where it was before. Not wanting to make a scene, she waited until the end of the treatment, which she couldn't enjoy as she was worrying about her bag. At the end It had been returned to the counter as before.
The incident was raised in a private office with the spa manager who initially was not very helpful. Money was counted and some appeared to be missing. After discussing in private with the manager it was apparent that the girl had disappeared. We agreed that we would hear from the spa manager again to get a response, we paid our bill and left.
We went to get our room key. Our stay had been tainted before we had even got our room and because it was pre-paid and it was peak season, we felt we had to stay. At this point we worked out that maybe money hadn't been taken, and that my wife had disturbed the girl in the act. We went back to the spa and raised it with the spa manager, who seemed relieved and said she would talk to the girl.
After this incident we spent as little time as possible at semara, we didn't feel comfortable there.
We never heard back from the spa manager or from hotel management for that matter. We even got a letter recommending that we have a treatment at the spa! On the day of checkout we went to breakfast an hour before checkout and asked Yulia at reception to prepare our bill. We also reminded her that we had a complaint if they could get an update on it.
When it came time to leave they had neither prepared the bill or checked out our complaint, and I was now dealing with a receptionist with no badge. Our bus arrived at that point, and with a boat to catch, we had to pay and leave.
So up to now we have not heard from the hotel, and I guess the moral of the story here, is don't bring valuables or cash to the spa at semara, as we feel there may be potential for them to be compromised, and avoid our experience of non-existent customer service and blank faces.

Dear Zonemelt,
We do apologize for any discomfort you may have experienced while at our spa. We have thoroughly investigated the matter. The explanation for your wife's bag being moved is quite simple. Your wife had placed it on the counter. During the spa treatment, water is used. The spa staff was concerned that your wife's bag would get wet, so she moved the bag to a safer place within the room. At the end of the treatment, the bag was returned to the counter so that your wife could easily find it. After the treatment was complete, the staff member went to take her break.
Following your next visit to the spa in which you explained that you had not counted your money correctly, our spa manager did try to phone you in your room several times to offer you another complimentary treatment but was unsuccessful in reaching you.
I hope you will accept this explanation, as we pride ourselves in maintaining a high level of care and security at our resort.
Best wishes.
