We recently stayed at Simbambili for three nights on our honeymoon. We've never been to Africa before, and had no idea what to expect. I put a lot of trust in my travel agent and crossed my fingers. This lodge was more than I imagined in my wildest dreams.

Firstly, I really appreciated the orientation we received when we first arrived. Having never done anything like this before, it was nice to have everything explained to us.

The room was so beautiful- I loved the bathroom and the ability to shower/bathe outdoors. The bed was really comfortable. But the deck is what blew me away. Private plunge pool, the giant outdoor bed, chaise lounges- it had everything we needed and then some.

The game drives were out of this world. Werner was so knowledgeable- it was incredible. We saw everything from a lion to a dung beetle and everything in between. I had a truly amazing experience with an elephant- I could have kissed him on his trunk, he was so close. I loved learning about the animals and about life in the bush from Werner. There were times that I was kind of scared of being eaten because of how close we got to the animals, and that was the most thrilling part of all. We came at a great time of year because so many animals were giving birth- one night we spotted a Zebra's placenta and the next day were able to find the day old Zebra. Pretty cool.

Finally, I thought the meal service was great. We loved the continental style breakfast that was served with eggs cooked to order. The lunches and dinners were fantastic. I don't eat pork and they were always able to accommodate a request I made to change up a dish. During the lunch buffet, our butler was sure to point out what contained pork, which I really appreciated. The last night, the staff set up private dining in our room, as well as a romantic bath, complete with candles, rose petals and champagne. It had actually been a cold and rainy game drive, so I was very excited to warm up in the bath and eat dinner a comfy robe.

Finally, we really enjoyed that we went on game drives with the same people each day. We were able to have great conversations with the people we were paired up with. I love my husband, but after awhile, you want to talk to other people. We loved having a group dinner with them as well.

Finally, I loved the sundowners in the bush. A highlight of the game drives.

We have told everyone we know about Simbambili and are counting down the days until we can return with friends and family.

Room tip: I don't think you can go wrong with any room here, but I did like having a room closer to the main lodge and right next store to the gym/spa. We stayed in Room 4.

We loved this lodge in the Sabi Sands for a few reasons. It reminded us of the time when lodges were about finding the game and not about how big they could make the rooms without any thought as to the comfort. Here each room has a large bedroom with extra large bathroom, very well appointed. The deck looks out onto a waterhole where there always seemed to be activitiy. There is a small plunge pool, and chaises to watch the game coming down to drink. We were fortunate enough to have the Waterhole suite that has a lounge attached and a beautiful daybed under a canopy of thatch. The staff were attentive and informative. The menu was varied and so was the dining experience. The ranger Richard and Mums his tracker were fantastic and we saw way more than just the Big Five! The cost is a third of the Singita/Mala Mala/Londolozi rate. The last detail that I loved about this lodge, was that it only has 8 rooms, so you really feel special.
Get a tranfer as the last 40 km are not on good road surface.

Room tip: All the rooms are great, the Waterhole Suite has extra space

We stayed at Simbambili for 3 nights, which included 6 spectacular game drives. We got to experience something mindblowing and funny (animals can be hilarious) on each and every trip. Our ranger Liam added to this experience by sharing his knowledge about not only the animals, birds, plants etc in general, but also about specific animals and their history and behaviour., which is a fantastic bonus. Our tracker Mumps was also great, clearly experienced and with a very impressive eye. Our butler Arnold was attentive and made us smile every day :) Thank you to everyone at Simbalbili for going out of your way to provide excellent, yet pleasantly relaxed service!

We hope to be back :)

We loved our time at Simbambili. We stayed in the waterhole suite, which was beautiful and very comfortable. We were there in early October and it was always to cold to take a dip in the plunge pool. The food was excellent, among the best we had in South Africa. The ranger and tracker were great, we saw everything of the big 5 except for lions. The leopard were absolutely unforgettable. We felt safe and comfortable the entire trip whether at the lodge or on the game drive. I would highly recommend this Simbambili!

We were thoroughly impressed from top to bottom by the Simbambili team. Greeted warmly on arrival by Alison (and before/after every game drive), we were taken to our immaculate room (or should I say villa?). The room is spotless, the plunge pool is actually cooled, and the bed incredibly comfortable. Sips, our ranger, and service, our tracker, were able to show us the big 5 within our first 2 game drives. They will go out of their way to make sure you get great camera angles, within reason and safely. Sips was even willing to go on a bush walk in 31 degree heat, and taught some of us quite a lot about the local trees, plants, and the 'small five'. Reinas, our waiter for the stay, was incredibly friendly, and truly knows how to make guests feel welcomed. All in, the Simambili team truly makes you feel special, part of the family, and you can tell they truly care. Finally, the food is very, very good, and cooked by local South Africans. You can eat privately, or with the group, and our guide Sips dined with us on 2 of 3 nights in a group setting. We truly enjoyed the experience and would love to return someday. We wish nothing but the best for Sips, Alison, and Reinas!
