I have just returned from my second visit to this amazing place. Its great location (10 mins walk from Fajara beach and 10 mins drive from Senegambia), beautiful setting (tropical garden with most clean swimming pool), wonderful Gambian and international cuisine (try the Chicken Yassa) and the amazing staff make of this place a hidden corner of paradise.
During my many visit to Africa, I have had many unique and wonderful experiences, but travelling by yourself on business is never easy especially if you are a woman. At Safari Garden everybody looks after you and you feel at home. This is the reason why I would recommend this hotel to any solo traveller (you will never feel alone!) and to couples.
The rooms are simple and clean...all you need really! and the staff is always there to help.
With the help of their Gambian staff , Geri and Maurice have made of this place a oasis of enjoyment and relaxation. It is not a surprise that visitors tend to extend their stay once they are there and they keep returning to this hotel...like me!
The Safari Garden friendly atmosphere will most certainly make your stay special!

I have just returned from a wonderful stay at the Safari Garden. The rooms are basic and take your own bath products but that is the charm of this hotel. The staff are very friendly and the food fantastic - check out the chocolate and beetroot cake! The owners are delightful and are commited to eco tourism. I would return there no problem!

Avoid this place. We were thoroughly mislead by favourable review in Lonely Planet. Rooms were tiny, filthy and way over priced at £40 a night. The water pressure was so low that the shower was unusable. At £40 a night I would have expected a little more, Furthermore the hotel slapped an extra 10% charge on bill when we tried to pay by Visa at end. This Visa charge was not flagged when we booked, when we checked in or even on the notice board price list. Food at restaurant was disappointing too. Go to the Ritz around the corner for cheaper and better cuisine. I not be visiting this hotel again and would strongly advise others to avoid. We bumped into sopme guest that had a similar experience and they checked out early and into Fajara Guesthouse which they found was "better and cheaper" (their words).

We stayed at Safari Garden in Feb 2005 and had an excellent week. The rooms are simple but clean and had all we needed (take your own toiletries, though!) The hotel aims to be eco-friendly, so not too many luxuries. The setting is delightful, all rooms with own bathroom and verandahs facing the lush small garden/ pool/ seating area. We had all meals outside under shady trees with birds singing. It is near enough to walk to the beach or main road for taxis. We found plenty of food to suit us, despite our dietary restrictions, lots of choice and flexibility from the ever-helpful staff. The best part was probably the small and friendly feel of the place, making us always feel we were coming home. The owners have good relations with their staff, many of whom have been there for years & are kept on even in the low season. It feels altogether a happy place to stay, not the lap of luxury but all we needed - can't wait to return.
