“Great stay at Lakeside Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2008

I had guests coming from out of town for a special visit to Montauk. The proprietor made extra efforts to accommodate my particular requests about room distribution. When we arrived, the rooms were immaculately prepared, beautifully appointed (it was better than some rooms at The W) and all our expectations were met. The proprietor even did a follow up call to make sure everything was to my satisfaction. I plan to stay with the Lakeside Inn again at least twice this year! The only reason I didn't choose s rating of excellent is that the office is frequently closed, so you might need to be prepared for some self-sufficiency. The proprietors do, however, answer their phone and respond to messages in a timely fashion.

“Great Idea, Not Quite There Yet, Terrible Customer Service”

Lakeside Inn is newly renovated by a young couple from Brooklyn. The idea of modern decor on the lake setting is wonderful. It seems however, that they have run out of money to fund their idea. Our room had a beautiful bathroom and shower. The bed was a tempurpedic or equivalent. The view through the double sliding glass door is so peaceful.
On the down side the fron window to our room had a cloth stapled to it to block the light from the parking cars. A loud couple next door easily penetrated the paper thin walls with their argument.
The worst part about the stay is that I've been over charged. At 150 a night, the room was already overpriced. However, when one stays at Lakeside you put a deposit down towards your stay and that deposit goes towards your total bill for your stay. In my case I was charged 200 for the deposit and 350 for the stay.
So two nights in a sub par room cost me 550 bucks. I've been in touch with the management and they keep saying they are reversing the charges. Here it is over four months later and I have to eat the 200 bucks. American Express only allows disputes of charges within 60 days.
At this point I would recommend you stay away from this place due to the lack of respect I've been paid. The idea is fantastic and I get what they are going for. But bottom line is that they are a customer service entity not a modern interior design firm.

“Nice Break from the City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2007

We visited the Lakeside Inn in late November with a bit of trepidation after reading some of the earlier reviews. Here is what I can tell you about our experience: We enjoyed our 3-day stay at Lakeside Inn. The rooms are simple but nice with a very comfortable bed, modern bathroom, and a private deck nestled on a beautiful lake.

Those of you looking for a W hotel experience should not stay here. In the winter the restaurant is closed, the staff is minimal, and there is no room service or day spa. But I can tell you that the property is quiet, clean, and peaceful, and makes a great weekend break from the city. It is also close to some good restaurants (Jonis for breakfast, Harvest for dinner) and activity (beach, Gurney's Inn).

“Worst experience ever!!!”

We stayed at the Lakeside Inn in Montauk after reading the review in the New York Times. We arrived at the Hotel where there was no office open to receive our key. It took us 30 minutes to finally find someone who had our key to get in our room. We got to the room to find out that it was nothing like the times had told us. This place was a huge dump. This room was completely covered with spiders inside and out. We had to fight our way through these spiders as we made a mess of the room trying to kill all of them. About an hour later we lost our power to our room. We went to the office to find a note on the door that gave us a number to call. We called to receive a message straight to voice mail. It was 2 hours later the plumber showed to fix our problem. He proceeded to yell at us about using hairdryers, that this would cause the power to go out. A angry man then showed us the boiler room if it were to happen again. Wow, it was our fault, then we had to fix the problem if it happened again. All for $275 a night. As we got power back we then realized that our spider problem was bigger then you could ever imagine. The entire building including the nightclub was covered with spiders. It was scary!! All for $275 a night. We could barely sleep through the night realizing how bad our problem really was. The next day we spoke with Gene the bartender who told us that Lakeside had been sprayed for bugs and spiders all throughout the summer, that it was a huge problem they couldn't solve. He told us that the owner Ryan could not be reached that he was in the City trying to save his business he was slowly losing. In the end we high tailed it out of the Lakeside realizing that this place was poorly managed, and infested with tons of spiders. After speaking with the bartender we got the feeling that the owner Ryan had no time for his Hotel, as well as no time for anything or anybody at his Hotel. All for $275

“STAY AWAY! One of the worst experiences ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2007

I booked the lakeside to cater a small birthday party for 20 people, back in April, for a date in late July. The manager told me he was under renovations and assured me that it would be no problem. I could not reach them after that until the week before my trip. that should have been a dead giveaway. When we arrived, the deck was dirty, cigarette butts everywhere, spider webs covered the picnic tables. They charged me $500.00 for the food: nachos, spagetti, 12 pieces of shrimp and corn and it was cold and absolutely unedible. There was no service except a young girl who disappeared five minutes into setting up. We did the best we could under the circumstances, but I wanted to cry. It was my daughter's first birthday and I had all of our family join us for dinner from the city. I called to talk to the Manager, Ryan, and he apologized profusely and told me he would refund some of the money. Well I called back a few days later and his story changed, and suddenly he had an emergency and he would call me back. That was over 4 weeks ago. I don't want anything back I just hope to spread the word about the poor management and inexperience I dealt with and hope that no one else has my experience. Its a shame too, because the lakewiew is beautiful. Stay AWAY!!!!!!!!
