“STAY AWAY! One of the worst experiences ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2007

I booked the lakeside to cater a small birthday party for 20 people, back in April, for a date in late July. The manager told me he was under renovations and assured me that it would be no problem. I could not reach them after that until the week before my trip. that should have been a dead giveaway. When we arrived, the deck was dirty, cigarette butts everywhere, spider webs covered the picnic tables. They charged me $500.00 for the food: nachos, spagetti, 12 pieces of shrimp and corn and it was cold and absolutely unedible. There was no service except a young girl who disappeared five minutes into setting up. We did the best we could under the circumstances, but I wanted to cry. It was my daughter's first birthday and I had all of our family join us for dinner from the city. I called to talk to the Manager, Ryan, and he apologized profusely and told me he would refund some of the money. Well I called back a few days later and his story changed, and suddenly he had an emergency and he would call me back. That was over 4 weeks ago. I don't want anything back I just hope to spread the word about the poor management and inexperience I dealt with and hope that no one else has my experience. Its a shame too, because the lakewiew is beautiful. Stay AWAY!!!!!!!!

“Beware”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2007

It looks like they spent the majority of their assets on the website and PR.

What we discovered was a poorly managed, underconstruction, overpriced motel. You can find those type properties in the area for much less money.

My boyfriend and I did enjoy the Montauk area, and will return. Just won't be staying at this motel.

“The place is not finished!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2007

My wife booked our stay based on the tempting pictures on the web site. Based on our stay, I'd say that the class action lawsuit for false advertising is due any day. The room was NOT FINISHED. That didn't stop them from charging full price, however.

When we arrived, the main office wasn't staffed. We called the number taped to the door, and eventually, the manager drove up fresh from an afternoon out swimming.

The room was filthy. The "blinds" over the windows were sheets of paper that had been glued on! The fan in the bathroom was literally held in place with duct tape. The lock on the sliding door leading to the tiny "deck" had screws missing -- anyone could have broken into our room. Worse, the room was filled with spiders! They were migrating from the lake into a room that was not sealed properly. I spent half the night swatting the evil [--].

And let's get something straight -- there is a difference between "minimalist" and "empty". There were NO amenities. No phone, no television, no room service, no shelving, no cupboards -- all for luxury prices. What furniture there was was straight from the bargain bin at Ikea.

There was a bar & grill attached to the complex. I can't tell you how the food was as it remained closed the entire time we were there.

We were so disgusted by the accommodations that we cut our vacation short. Avoid this dump like the black plague.

“Website = not reality”

Okay, maybe we came out on one of the first weekends of summer and maybe they were not up to speed on everything yet at the Lakeside Inn - but the front desk should at least have mentioned when we booked our two night stay (expecting wi-fi service, The New York Times and whatever else was promised on the website).

I have to admit we mainly came out after checking out the website (very nice pics!) - but be warned ... this website and its images do not reflect reality!

This is not a calm chill out place ... its more of a frat house gone wild, the bar turns into a lakeside club every night, with loud crowds and very hung-over employees the next morning.

Unless they change management and clean up their act - do not go by the Lakeside Inn website and try to spend your money elsewhere!

“What a complete and total dump”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2007

Like most of the other people on this site, my girlfriend and I were fooled into staying at the Lakeside Inn after reading a good review in New York Magazine and seeing the nice photos on the website. (I doubt if anyone from NY Magazine ever stayed here, or if they did, they must be a friend of the owner.) However, we were extremely disappointed in our stay. First of all, the room we were placed in was completely different than both what was described to us and shown on the website. In fact, the website is extremely misleading, to the point where I would call it false advertising. What the website shows and promises are beautiful, clean luxury rooms, brand new bathrooms. It also promises “All rooms have wireless access, Ipod docking stations. Check out an Ipod at the front desk to enjoy super chill sounds or whatever your genre. New York Times and Montauk Pioneer.” These are all false.

Instead, the room we were placed did not even look to be completed. It was horrifyingly disgusting. Dead bug guts streaked across the walls for your viewing pleasure. Dead bug guts smashed into the disgusting bathmats. Dead bugs in the shower, in the sink, all over the floor.

In trying to figure out how the hell all these bugs managed to get in the room, we realized that THE FLOORS HAD NOT BEEN SEALED. Hello owners...you are a motel next to the lake! Did it not occur to you to kick in a couple more bucks to seal the floors?

There was also birdcrap all over the lakeside "deck". I'm not sure if I'd call it a "deck"...a more appropriate term might be "unlocked entry for someone to steal all of the stuff in your room" or "stand here to get crapped on by birds and eaten alive by mosquitoes".
