The Melina Hotel is a very pretty little hotel within easy walking distance of the centre. Upon arrival, we were given a choice of two rooms (which was nice!) as the owners thought we might prefer the second (which we did!). Our eventual room had a balcony looking out over the garden at the side of the hotel which was very quiet and relaxing (though quite open to the winds). The room was fairly basic and the bathroom needed updating however it was perfectly suitable if you were just using it as a base to explore the island.
Breakfast was ok but it was strange that you had no choice in the selection of items and that these were just delivered to you. It was a lot of food (mostly bread, which if you were coeliac would be a bit of a downer) so the (frequent) leftovers went to waste. A buffet arrangement would probably have worked better. The owners were friendly and very happy to advise on buses, restaurants etc. The pool was fine but most of the umbrellas were broken (the owner did come out and fix one of them with a drill when we mentioned this, which was helpful). Due to the high winds on the balcony, the ashtray blew off the table outside our room and shattered, and although we told the owner and he said it would be cleared up, it was still there when...The Melina Hotel is a very pretty little hotel within easy walking distance of the centre. All in all, if you want a quiet hotel close to Fira, Hotel Melina is an adequate base, but it is fairly basic.More
