“Average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We stayed at this Hampton Inn for one night in December, and were glad we only had to spend one night there.

Check in: The receptionist who checked us in was rude and short with us when we arrived at the hotel late in the evening because he insisted we didn't have reservations. After a few minutes of me producing the email confirmation of our reservation, he found that we were listed in the system as having already checked in. So after clearing up the mix up, we were given our room key with little explanation as to why we were listed as having already checked in and no apologies.

Room: The room was outdated but clean. We found the old jacuzzi tub in the bathroom extremely odd and unfinished (you can see all the screws, wood boards) but everything seemed clean.

Breakfast: Average - cereals, pastries, waffles, and eggs. We ate around 8am and found it strange that there was no one attending the front desk or breakfast area the entire 1/2hr we were in the lobby.

Location: The hotel is right off the highway, but as some previous reviewers mentioned, it can be hard to find if you didn't know the hotel was located behind the Denny's.

Overall, the hotel is fine for a one night stay but not sure I would recommend it for anything longer than that.

Thank you for reviewing our hotel on TripAdvisor. I apologize for the issues you had with your stay. Our goal is to do everything we can to make sure every guest has an amazing stay and it seems we missed the mark on your stay. I believe the issue you mentioned was a result of a newer staff member but obviously could have been handled better by us when we were made aware of the situation. An explanation was definitely in order. We have used this situation as a training opportunity and hopefully it will not happen again. I want to personally apologize for the issue and make it right with you if possible. If you would like, please contact me at 607-936-3344 to discuss. I hope you give us another chance to show our dedication to your comfort and satisfaction and I look forward to speaking with you.

“Nice place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

Some of the previous reviews panned this place for being "old". But I decided to give it a chance and am glad I did. All areas were clean and neat. My room was quite nice, especially the bed and pillows. Staff was open and friendly. It's easy to find from the highway. There were snacks out when I arrived in the evening and a pretty decent breakfast selection available in the morning. If you are looking for a 4-star hotel, go someplace else. If you just want a nice, clean, quiet place to stay near Corning, this worked for me. I did notice at breakfast that there were several people who were obviously regulars, judging from the conversations with staff. I will be back since I now have to travel through this area regularly.

Thank you so much for reviewing our property on TripAdvisor. While we have made some recent upgrades, (37" flat screen TV's, Microwave / Refrigerator units in every room, complete pool renovation) with more upgrades to come soon, the staff is definitely our most valuable asset. We're here to make your stay the best one possible. So, I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and plan on returning to visit us again soon. Please let us know if we can be of assistance in any of your future travels.

“Very outdated hotel but friendly staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Went to Corning, NY for business and stayed at this Hampton Inn in Painted Post, NY. The hotel was built in 1995 and has not been updated since, which is quite disappointing considering there's not much to choose from in the area. There is a newer and much more updated Hampton Inn in Horseheads, NY which is about 20-30 minutes from Corning, so you can choose to stay there if you don't mind the drive up and down the interstate.

On the bright side, the staff are very friendly and accommodating and the rooms are clean, just very outdated, with wooden tables and chairs for a desk, light wood dressers and headboards, and a very plain white and greyish color bathroom. There is a microwave and fridge in the room I was in. The hotel itself can be a little hard to find from intersate 86. If you're coming from Elmira airport take 86 west and exit 43. Go down the ramp and make a left at the light and It sits right behind Denny's restaurant on the right side.

It's very close to Corning, just 2 exits away, and there's a quaint main shopping street (Market Street) in Corning's historic Gaffer District with restaurants, bars, various shops, bakeries and coffee shops and the Corning Museum of Glass. The only reason I give this hotel 3 stars is because of the friendly staff and the close proximity to Corning.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We really appreciate the feedback. I would like to especially thank you for mentioning the staff. They really try to make sure everyone has a great experience and it means a lot to them when they are mentioned in guest comments. We are due for some renovations that should be coming shortly. We are working on those plans now. I'm glad you were able to visit downtown Corning and the Gaffer District. It offers a multitude of options as you mentioned. Thank you for staying with us and we hope to see you again soon.

“Excellent hotel to stay in Corning area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

We went to visit the glass museum. We stayed at the Hampton Inn at Painted Post NY. We were given late check in. When we arrived the host gave to us a gift bag with water and snacks. It was a nice touch. The hot breakfast was very good. Parking is ample, safe and easy to access. There are many attractions and restaurants near by. The fitness center has good equipment and we worked out every day. A great place to stay. The rooms have no noise form any other spaces.

Room Tip: All rooms were good.

“Not up to Hampton standards”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

The room and bath is in dire need of updating. Our room was smelly but the room we moved to had a huge stain on the ceiling and the wall was bubbled out from the studs so we moved back to the first room. We kept the window open the entire time. The desk staff was very nice but this hotel at nearly $150 a night is a disappointment and should not carry the Hampton name.

Room Tip: Book early and stay at the Fairfield Inn

I really appreciate you taking the time to review your stay on Trip Advisor. Your feedback will help us improve and we take all reviews very seriously. This is not indicative a normal stay at our hotel. We take pride in our accomodations and service and it sounds like we fell short of your expectations, and ours, on your stay. If you would like to contact me at the hotel at 607-936-3344 I would love to try and make it right. We really do appreciate you staying and I hope you give us another chance to show our dedication to your comfort and satisfaction. I know we can provide you with a wonderful stay. If you contact me I will make the arrangements personally.
