“Wow what a holiday”

We had never been to Africa but knew we wanted to start our honeymoon with a safari. We had received lots of conflicting information and advice about the best places to go. In the end we went to a specialist travel agent who put together the holiday for us. The safari cost more than we anticipated but wow we were treated like royalty! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were so looked after. The tents were superb the food was wonderful and the staff really friendly. Our guide Gerard was so knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend four days with. The afternoon river safaris were relaxing after six hours of driving each day. The bush breakfasts were intimate and broke the morning up nicely. It was perfect and we got to see all the big game and were especially lucky to see a mother leopard and her two cubs. I would definitely recommend this place!

“Gerard was a star!”

We spent the first four nights of our honeymoon at Impala Camp and could not find any fault at all. We received a warm welcome by the management team and our waiter, David. Everyone was so friendly and the service was extremely personalised. Our guide, Gerard, was fantastic. He shared his extensive knowledge and passion for the bush. His instinct to find the animals was superb and we saw everything we could have hoped for!

Absolutely fantastic - the tents, the guides, the personnel, the safari, the location, the reserve, the trees, the animals - and a perfect balance between comfort, style, and nature. One of our all-time favorites!

“Amazing honeymoon safari”

Our stay at the Impala Camp was totally fantastic. Our first experience of Africa - and it couldn't have been better.

The camp is beautiful. The restaurant and bar are open to the river - with a lovely pool just right for a mid-afternoon dip. As its in the middle of the Selous Reserve, hippos, elefants and other animals wander around the camp - and your tent! Barbara and Andreas were very friendly and helpful as were the other camp staff. It was a nice touch to have the same waiter all week, who tried to teach us some Swahili! The food was of a very good standard - although we'd have preferred simpler desserts (e.g.fruit) after the fantastic starter, soup and main course!

Our guide Mpogo was amazing at spotting animals. I think we saw everything possible to see in the area, including a leopard, wild dogs, lions, elephants and a miriad of birds. He even managed to spot a python 20ft up a tree!

We'd highly recommend anyone to try the Impala Camp and will definitely be going on safari again.

Thank you!!

“Amazing Experience!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

We stayed at this camp from Dec 28-31, at the end of our Tanzania/Zanzibar vacation.

Stunning views of the Rufiji river, heavenly sunsets and exceptionally friendly staff made this one of our best vacations ever.

Each meal was a unique experience with ingenious themes and presentations! Bush breakfasts, lunch in the airy thatched lounge and dinner under the stars made it a memorable visit. Champagne by the river was mesmerizing.

The staff made sure that there was always something non-alcoholic to drink and eat for our 13 year old when champagne were being served. Morning wakeup with tea/biscuits, a well stocked bar, and provision of water and other drinks on the safaris added to the comfort.

The tent was simple yet luxurious, with an outstanding view. Had running hot/cold water and electricity.

Our guide Omari and Driver Mussa helped with sightings of lions, lion cubs, hyenas, hunting dogs, greater kudus, crocodiles, hippos and innumerable number of exotic birds. Diamond our boatman made sure that our boating trip led us to the spectacular bird island.

The staff including David our waiter, Thomas the Ranger (who defended us from a charging buffalo), and the managers Andrea (not the hippo :-)), Lorenzo.and Delia made the experience all the more memorable.

Waking up each morning to the sound of birds, and sleeping with the comforting snorting of the hippos will always be remembered.

The ever vigilant Masai and Andrea the camp hippo and made it all the more surreal. :-)
