I and my wife spent four relaxing days at hotel luna de plata.Hotel design is nice tropical
mexican style.Rooms are very clean, basic and affordable.Italian restaurant is one of the best in Mahahual and again very affordable,( large pizza $7,cold beer 20 pesos).
They have private beach in font of hotel with comfy beach beds and palapas.Rooms are
breezy you do not need air con. They have also ATM machine at the hotel entrance.
Staff who work at Luna de plata are very nice and polite people. You can check the hotel
at www.lunadeplata.info

“Clean, Laid-Back Inn Right Across From the Beach”

Stayed a few days at this Italian-run hotel on the beach in Mahahual. It's a bit of a walk from the bus stop and center of town (about 10 minutes) but well worth it. The location is great. Walk across the street and the beach is yours! The rooms are nice sized and simple. The restaurant serves authentic Italian fare for reasonable prices. Since I speak Italian, I got to argue about soccer and other important topics nightly.

A decent breakfast is served next door at the Blue Iguana or you can find several restaurants once back in the town proper.

The constant trade winds made air-conditioning unnecessary in my opinion. The staff speaks many languages and is very helpful. They have free Wireless Internet....beware that the connection all over Mahahual can be spotty at times.

This hotel/restaurant combo is a good value if you are looking for simple, no-frills accommodations.

“Nice Place-about as good as it gets in Majahual”

We drove to Majahual from Play Del Carmen. They had rooms available and were very reasonably priced. The hotel has a great little restaurant and cheap! I don't think any of the rooms had A/C. As with most hotels in the city, it is just across the sandy road from the beach. The rooms were clean and quite new. We had a Queen sized bed and a side bed w/ceiling fan. You won't get much breeze from the ocean. The accommodations are about as good as it gets in Majahual. It is a sleepy little beach town. The diving was great the beaches, however, are not as good as playa del carmen, You could walk a down the road a ways and have one all to yourself. The town opens up when the cruise ships dock and then all the shops closed when they leave. It is a great town to visit to see what the northern part of the yucatan was 30 years ago.

“great hotel and superb staff”

I went to visit Mahahual with my girlfriend in late November. From the beginning, we weren't expecting too much from this small romantic town, turned cruise-ship stop.
However we were plesantly suprised when we stumbled upon the Luna De Plata hotel. We selected one of their 'superior' rooms and were presented with a very well layed out and decorative room. The room had a couch, good size bathroom, queen size bed and ample closet space - for those who prefer to 'move in' with their belongings and not simply live out of their suitcase.

There wasn't any A/C but it was not needed, as their was a ceiling fan and the ocean breeze (only 30 yards away) was refreshing enough.
In addition, there is a fabulous Italian restaurant connected to the hotel. the food and ambiance was one of our highlights in Mahahual.
(The hotel is sufficiently distanced from the cruise ship crowds /center of town, yet close enough for an afternoon walk).
