We stayed here two weeks ago during a driving tour of the Yucatan. We stayed two nights so that we would have plenty of time to see Uxmal. We had stayed at the Hacienda Uxmal on a previous visit 13 years ago but decided to try the Mision Park Inn because the ratings on TripAdvisor were similar and the Mision Park was considerably cheaper. Well, we wish we had stayed at the Hacienda Uxmal instead.
The Mision Uxmal is heavily used by bus groups - even groups not staying the night, but utilizing the cafeteria/restaurant and the outside pool area. The place was almost always very busy during our entire stay with loud buses running engines in the driveway.
Throughout our stay, there was no hot water in the rooms. They warned us when we checked in but since we had prepaid, there was no point in trying to move. We took very quick showers.
The rooms are worn and the furnishings are tired in this hotel. There are no screens on the porch doors. So, unless you run the air all night, you have to leave the door open to the bugs. The rooms have nice balconies but no furniture on them - not even plastic chairs.
The restaurant/cafeteria had no charm and was very crowded with bus tours. There was no outside dining option even though there were tables out by the pool. Food was served buffet style.
The best thing about the hotel was the big pool but it got very crowded with bus tours that would come in just for the afternoon lunch stop after the tour of the ruins. The pool was also in need of cleaning. Another plus were the cold beers that were available from the bar but we had to get them ourselves since the wait staff never came out to the pool area.
One evening, we went over to the Hacienda Uxmal and walked around. This place was just as beautiful as we remembered it. It's well cared for and the beautiful pool is just as inviting as it was 13 years ago. This is where we would stay if we ever return to Uxmal. I can't imagine why the Trip Advisor reviews are not better.
We also checked out the Villas Arqueologicas and the Lodge at Uxmal. These are located right at the gate of the ruins and are in the hub of things during the day. The Lodge is way too expensive and the Villas are filled with smoking French people. However, the restaurant at the Lodge is wonderful and we ate all our meals there. It's under a huge palapa right across from the entrance to Uxmal. The food was very good and no more expensive than the other restaurants and it was never crowded when we were there.
