As a kid I adored this place. So sad to see how run down it has become. And where are all the attractions now....dirty, run down, derelict and closed. So sad to see this Aussie icon let go to waste. Simply a stop over now for a quick photo for old times sake.
Change the opening hours on your website you mean bastards. We've just driven 3.2 hours for a little boys 4th birthday. Ruined. And the place is a disgrace. Authorities need to step in. DONT COME HERE it's only open Saturdays
Dead place. I think worth for visit if you are chasing big objects in Australia and want photos with you and them. After that not much to see and do here - made a few photos, saw some rows of growing small pineapples and that's all.
New management haven't improved anything in fact it's now worst than before. Total disgrace. Scruffy, dirty uncared for.
This once local icon, is still there to be viewed, but all the great pineapple products you used to buy here are gone due to closure.
We only stopped here as a remembrance from many years ago- what a shame.
We were even informed the train that runs around the zoo next door is also gone, although the zoo itself is still open.
I have given The Big Pineapple a terrible score as it is not open, a run down derelict place. Sadly it is next door to the now Queensland Zoo which used to be Alma Park Zoo near Brisbane, when they moved to Nambour they were assured that the Big Pineapple would remain open which is not the case.
The first impressions on arriving down a very uneven drive to a grassy parking area,is not encouraging the ticket office is a demountable as is the cheap tourist shop, no cafe, so don't expect to get a gourmet coffee ! The origional part where the train used to run and stop at the farm yard is so run down, the place needs heaps of money injected , the Kangaroo area is dry and dusty, the once beautiful lake is now green and totally uncared for it looks like grass from a distance.
Finally you arrive at the Zoo, a breath of fresh air to see the Koalas in pleasant surrounds, The Sun Bear made a quick appearance as did the Red Panda and Baboons. Various monkeys, Dingos and an Albino Kangaroo.
The talk given by 3 experienced keepers about the Koalas, Crocodiles and Pythons was very interesting and well presented, at quite a price you can have your photo taken with the animals, which , considering they need money poured into the place, this is one way of raising funds.
I wish the Zoo well, as it needs urgent improvements, hope they can find a wealthy benefactor, as it certainly has potential, before they go broke and perhaps would have to close, which would be a pity.
