“Great Spa, Great room, average pool facilities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

The room was absolutely gorgeous! it was HUGE and everything there we needed.
The bath was a step-in but was pretty good. the linen was clean and fresh.
The spa (Where we had a facial and massage) was v simple and not that inviting, but the services were EXCELLENT!!!! The girl on reception was just shouting down the phone to someone (a mate or not) and it was v annoying as disturbed everyone in the waiting area.
The breakfast and dinner were reall really lovely. Plentiful food and drink and really love views.
Only thing that let this down was the pool and spa and steam were terrible - really not nice by my standards!

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post a review; it is much appreciated; I was delighted to read that you enjoyed your short visit and I was thrilled to read your very kind comments about your room and the service in the spa but I was disappointed at the behaviour of the receptionist in the spa; this is not acceptable and I am really sorry that it marred your total enjoyment of the day. I am sorry that the pool and steam room didn;t match your expectations.
I have passed on your very kind comments about breakfast and dinner and I have to agree, the views from Cloisters restaurant are exceptional!
I do hope that we can look forward to welcoming you back in the very near future.

Yours sincerely

“Perfect in every way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

Stayed last night in a twin bedded executive room with my sister. Went for a girly break ,spa treatment, dinner with champagne and a lot of nattering to recharge batteries before the christmas frenzy . Fantastic ! Room was excellent, spacious and tastefully decorated , clean and fresh, comfy beds, beautiful views across the countryside ,luxurious bathroom well stocked with toiletries. Facilities for tea coffee etc. Staff were welcoming and helpful and we were asked if we needed any further supplies in the evening when housekeeping staff offered to turn down beds. Wonderful meal in the restaurant with a great selection on the menu. We were given canapes and appetizers as well as our 3 course meal plus coffee and petit fours, champagne kept on ice during meal. Perfect service from the charming maitre d and all staff . Delicious breakfast in the morning. When checking out the reception staff said we were still welcome to use the health club during that day and told us we did not need to rush off. We had booked an inclusive package for a remarkably low price but we were made to feel really special by everyone . I live fairly locally and have stayed here before as well as having visited to use the restaurant ,I hope to return soon ...Wedding Anniversary in January (Hope my husband is reading this)

“We Loved it !!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

Stayed last night in the Executive room ( number 1 ) Room was lovely, comfortable large bed, bathroom fully stocked with lots of products, towels and flannels. Staff were all friendly and helpful, probably spoke to over 10 of them whilst taking a walk around the hotel and all of them greeted us with smiles and held doors open and spoke to us. Not one of them appeared snooty or had any lack of the understanding of the English Language.( cannot understand this negative feedback about the staff, did other guests who have complained actually stay at this hotel ?? )
We dined in the restaurant and the food was outstanding - absolutely top quality service, very attentive waiter.
We asked for an Ice bucket and champagne glasses to be bought to our room and then changed our minds later about the time we wanted it, not a problem, as the staff said, it was our perogative to change our mind.
I asked to see the menu 4 hours prior to us having our meal and staff went to the restaurant and came back to the lounge and presented it to me to view. nothing appeared to be too much trouble for them.
The only problem we had was the noise we could hear at 2 O'clock in the morning of a screaming banshee who had obviously had too much to drink, but that is not the hotel's fault.
Anybody wishing to go, do not be put off by the negative's, we have stayed in top quality hotels in this country and abroad and feel that this hotel and it's staff deserves to be credited and praised for all their hard work.

I was particularly pleased to read your comments about changing your mind about the timing of your room service delivery and the response you got form my colleagues as it is exactly what we try to do all of the time. I am sorry you were disturbed by other guests in the night; it is difficult for us to control no matter how often we remind guest that there are others in the hotel.

I do hope that we can look forward to welcoming you back to Nutfield Priory in the very near future.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011 via mobile

We booked a junior suite for two nights' stay with our one year old daughter. The room was well presented (although a little small for a suite) and the breakfasts very good but everything else was a bit of a disappointment, largely because the staff seem poorly trained.

1. Shampoo and shower gel were not replaced by cleaners, even though they were running low and we had specifically asked staff to do this. Same with coffee, biscuits etc.

2. We asked twice for a small flannel so we could bath our daughter. On second time of asking someone left a large bath towel. We gave up at that point.

3. Asked the hotel to book a taxi and were told this would take 20 to 30 minutes. After 40 minutes with no update I asked reception to phone for an update. The receptionist hung up whilst still ringing on the first attempt as the duty manager wanted to speak to her. When she did get through the taxi company told her a taxi had already arrived and had been sent away. It would be another 20 to 30 minutes for another one.

By this time I'd lost any remaining confidence in the staff so phoned for a taxi myself. The duty manager was apologetic and tried to help but didn't really get the problem. He tried to help by phoning another taxi even though I'd said that we had arranged one ourselves. He didn't bother cancelling this, even though I'd said I didn't want it and then seemed to take offence when his taxi arrived and we didn't get in it.

He was adamant that the only recompense he would offer was either to pay for our taxi or for our £21 drink bill, which he grudgingly did.

Shame, because with proper staff training, this could be a good hotel, albeit one I would not risk going back to.

“Staff need training”

Stayed here to manage a meeting. Fabulous place, but a bit tired. No conference staff were available to advise and help. Internet didn't work properly. Staff didn't understand basic requests in English. Lunch was an hour late due to miscommunication between staff. However, the bar manager was brilliant rushing around trying to sort out the issues and deserved a medal.
If the hotel wants to promote itself as a hotel that can manage meetings, it needs to up its game.

Thank you for your recent review. It would help me greatly to address the specific issues you have noted about service, within our conference department, if we could speak in person and I could then investigate the problems you experienced. Perhaps you would be kind enough to revert to my email address mmckay@handpicked.co.uk with a telephone number that I may call you on.

With kind regards
