“Could use a little TLC....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

Despite the negative reviews of this hotel, I recently stayed here mostly because of its close proximity to an event that I was in. Check in was ok, but I noticed the odd smell that others have commented on. The hallways are well lit but the carpet is starting to come up. The room itself is average. The bathroom is not overly large, but adequate and clean. The "office" chair was broke and almost unusable! The air conditioner fan was so loud that I didn't even turn it on. They have not updated to flat screen, and the internet service was slow. There is no refrigerator or microwave in the room that I was in. They do have a rather large outdoor pool. The entire hotel is a littel dated and needs some tender loving care! I would stay here again only because of the close proximity of friends.

“Nasty!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

I wish I would have known to read about these reviews prior to my trip. We were in the hotel on 10/28 and 10/29, 2011. We arrived late (after 11pm) and obviously, the night auditor was on duty. She never looked up until I said..."Excuse me...we need to check in" She took my credit card, had me initial the paperwork, and then said, "You are in room 207. We don't have an elevator" My husband had our items on a cart and I was on crutches. NICE! We stepped into the stairwell and were appalled and repulsed by the stench of smoke and the scattered cigarette butts covering the steps. Couldn't wait to get to our non-smoking room...I think they just designated it non-smoking that day! It was worse than the hallway! Cigarette burns on the comforters, pillows smelled, towels smelled, etc...We were so tired and knew there wasn't a lot around there so we went on to bed. The next morning, the cleanliness and age of the bathroom became apparent. Grossed out but left for the day. On Sunday, when we went to check out, again, no comment from the staff until I said..."We need to check out" Obviously, she didn't ask how everything was...she knew the answer. Her only comment to me was "Do you need a receipt?" While I was waiting, I noticed the back wall, 1/2 of it covered with "VOTED #1 IN CUSTOMER SERVICE" "100% CUSTOMER SATISFACTION GUARANTEED" None of these signs had dates...and who knows who gave them out...but I was determined to let Choice Hotels know. Upon arrival at home, I got onto the Choice Hotels site to process a comment and get them to contact me...that was 10/30/11...received a reply that I would hear from them within 72 hours. It is now, 11/3 and I am still waiting...NEVER EVER AGAIN at this hotel and if I don't hear something soon...I will never use a Choice Hotel. RUN! RUN! It is worth the extra driving to stay elsewhere!

Room Tip: Choose another hotel! BEWARE...price is a pretty good indicator of quality!

“stench!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

stayed at the clarion on the weekend of 10/8/11-10/9/11. $86 out the door and i wouldn't have paid one cent if i knew what kind of place it was. the parking lot was loaded with trash and cups and potholes, and that was the nice part. the hotel was disgusting and probably has not been renovated or worked on since the 70's which is the era all room amenities are dated from. there are smoking and non smoking rooms but the entire places wreaks of cigarette smoke. the hallways, the carpets, the stairways, the lobby and oh yea, the NON-SMOKING rooms! i stayed in a "non smoking" room but had family in smoking rooms so i experienced the differences, of which there were none.... the air conditioners don't work they just blow out stale air because they are at least 30 to 35 years old. the bed covers had cigarette burns and other various concerning stains and were not used. the showers were marginally clean but not user friendly as the shower head was only mid chest height but stuck out of the wall at least 18" and i actually felt dirtier when i emerged. the place is obviously an overnight trucker dive but wow. the worst hotel i've ever stayed at in my life. it was especially bad because i came there from a gorgeous holiday inn the night before. we stayed there for a family event nearby and i would strongly urge anyone to avoid this place at all costs unless you had to attend something down the road, like we did. i'm now home and have to wash the clothes i didn't wear b/c they stink of the clarion. i'll probably wash my duffel bag too since it also wreaks of the cigarette infested stench of the building.

“Gross”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

Stayed for one night for business. room smelled so bad and the bed sheets had stains on them I found a hair on my pillow and the bathroom toilet seat had the finish on it flaking off very poor and sad. Staff person at the desk was short and miserable as well. The entire hotel is a rundown mess the carpets in the hallways are rippled and bumpy with pieces missing and all I smelled was mold and smoke.

Room Tip: look somewhere else

“mini vacation- 4th of july night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Stayed at the Clarion on 4th of July evening, when the fireworks were to be set off in my nearby community. My small dog is scared of them, and figured, the Clarion is set off enough that you could not hear them and decided to take her and myself for a mini vacation. Worked out perfectly. Enjoyed and left the next morning. The only item I could not get to work was the phone- not sure if it was broken or I was just not operating it correctly. Used my cell phone. Would stay again .
