“Room OK, hotel kind of a wreck”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2010

I was really worried when I read the prior reviews after my corporate travel agent booked me here. Decided I had better add a new review since none have been written recently.
Check-in was reasonably friendly and efficient. The trek to the room led to confirming prior reviews that the exterier doors to the hotel wings are not locked and do not have locks, basically anyone can come inside the hallways at any time. I have not stayed at a place like that in many years. The hallways reeked of smoke, and there did not appear to be a segregation of smoking vs non-smoking rooms. My room was OK. The bedding was clean and quite comfortable. The bathroom was not filthy but not spotless either. The TV was in good repair. The AC worked well, but was a little noisy. I thought I was going to have a cold shower in the morning, but after running the water for about 5 minutes, it finally got hot.
I ate dinner at the restaurant on site. The service was a tad slow, but the food for all the members of our party was pretty good. Internet access in the business center was too slow to pull up a boarding pass, gave up after 10 minutes just trying to get to one web site.
All in all, I can't complain about what I got for the price. The room was decent enough if the lack of security does not scare you off. I can't recommend due to security concerns. If they would correct that, it has potential to be a good value.

“Unsafe and Unclean”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2009

I stayed there with 3 of my children while visiting family over the Christmas break.

There was an altercation in the hallway at approximately 2 am. A young man was screaming some of the worst obscenities at the top of his lungs and threatening other people in the hallway. Apparently, the front desk was called because it was believed that he was assaulting a woman in his room. Instead of the police being called, the bar bouncer handled the situation, by removing the man from the building.

That was a joke, really. The door to the outside on our end of the building was broken and could not be closed let alone locked. The guy just walked right back in and started pounding on his girlfriend's door and yelling obscenities again. I called the front desk. No one came. I called again and pleaded with them to remove the man. Someone came and talked with the guy who quieted down for a short time, but as soon as the guy from the front desk left - he started pounding and yelling all over again.

In addition, the motel was dirty as other reviewers described.

We decided that if we need to stay at a hotel while visiting our relatives again (we don't always need to), then we will stay at the new hotel by the new mall. It's further away from our relatives, but I can imagine it would HAVE to be a much more pleasant stay.

PS - I wrote a formal complaint to Clarion about our stay and the unsafe situation. I received a generic reply and as far as I could tell the last time I looked, the door that I mentioned is still broken.

Don't stay there.

“A Petri Dish”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2008

I was told by locals that this hotel is an old Holiday Inn: it probably dates from the 70s.

Our room was a Petri dish: it smelled moldy when we first walked in. I checked the bathroom and found that there was mold everywhere: even the shower curtain was BLACK all the way along the bottom with mold.

We checked out.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

“Never Stay Here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2008

This hotel is a joke. I have stayed there several times (because it is the only hotel w/in a 10 mile radius of the area), for various receptions. The front desk called the police for unknown people making noise, gave the police the wrong room numbers, and had the police nearly break down the doors of two rooms with people sleeping in them. One of those rooms was my room!!! Not only did the front desk not appologize, but they acted as if they did nothing wrong. Neither did the police for that matter, but that is another story.

Second, the shower did not work, and they did not offer any discount for us even with the lack of running water.

Breakfast buffet was good, but did not even come close to making up for the rest of the garbage we put up with. Oh yeah, the buffet cost $10 on top of your room stay!

It should be noted the other 60 guests that stayed there had a very similar experience.

NEVER STAY HERE. It is a gateway to hell.

  • Liked — Nothing, only the breakfast buffet was good.

“Enjoy the view (and smell)”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2007

It was tricky to find hotel at night. Late check in was OK. I found out the room very smelly, it was non-smoking room and it was hard to get what the smell it was(mold?). Hotel clerk offered to change a room for the next day. Hotel located near the river and you can run/walk there and enjoy a river view. Pool was a plus in a hot day. Hotel has a restaurant, but I didn’t eat there. Place was very quiet. Hotel is old, but most of equipment - toilet, shower, AC, TV worked fine. My room had an iron, a hairdryer and a coffee maker. You can find a business center with free Internet Access on the first floor near the check in area. The whole town of New Kensington left a very sad impression on me - old empty houses, shut down stores( later I found out a newer part of the town), so I can say that hotel was OK for that area and the price they offered.

  • Liked — it was the only hotel in the area I needed
  • Disliked — nothing
