I was looking forward to staying at this historic hotel, as we love historic buildings. The young man, with the brown hair, who was working the front desk this past Saturday was extremely nice and accommodating. The other two employees, an older lady with longer hair and an older middle age man with grey hair....were not. They were crabby at best, and their lack of customer service was amazing, considering this is the START of tourist season!
The room was clean, although not the charm you might expect from a historic property. We stayed there over a Saturday and a Sunday night. We did get some sleep on Sunday night, but Saturday night was ridiculous. The noise coming off the street did not lend itself to slumber, even with earplugs! I imagine it is due to the poor to no insulation in the building. The screaming that was going on out in the hall, after midnight, was also not accommodating for sleep. I did call the front desk about the hall screaming, and they did come up and take care of it or it stopped on it's own accord.
Basically, there is no way that I would ever stay here again. The outside of the building is lovely, but the indoor decor is marginal. The main reason I would NEVER stay here again is due to the extreme amount of street noise, lack of shades that would darken a room, and the poor attitude of the staff, except the one nice young man.

Room tip: if you want a good room, I would not stay here

I stayed here during the rally in August 2012 with my fiancee. (The option below does not let me select that.) I fell in love with the hotel from the moment that I walked in the door. It was comfortable. The furnishings were good but modern and the staff was very polite. Breakfast in the morning was good and fairly inexpensive. We had a room upstairs in the front of the building. It was a bit noisy and the neon light was very bright but overall I loved it. I did not see a ghost but it got away with my double stranded pearl necklace. It was given to me from my dad, after he passed. I couldn't find it anywhere. That was my only disappointment.

Room tip: If you stay during rally time, do not expect quiet anywhere.

The hotel is amazing, and haunted to boot! The rooms are cozy, you will feel as is Wild Bill himself may be strolling down the hallways at any moment. The staff is not overly friendly, our only knock. But lets face it, how often is interaction required? The hotel is right on the main drag, the historic downtown!

Room tip: Stay anywhere in this treasure!!!

This is a historic hotel, but unfortunately is doesn't look much like it inside... I would've hoped for more western style-furnishings instead of the contemporary we found in our room... The only thing reminding us of the western era was the exteriour, the reception area and the tellers office. Otherwise the building is filled with modern gambling machines blinking at you from your first step inside.... Those machines really took away the charm for us... We never saw anyone using them either.

Staff seemed a bit overwhelmed and stressed, allthough she did everything she could for us and others, she should've had some help I think (not because she couldn't do her job, but because there was enough work for two or three people....).

Room tip: Get a room facing the front, the other ones faces a brick wall....

Thank you for staying with us at the Historic Bullock Hotel. We wish we could have fulfilled your expectations of a more historic experience. It is our history that is the most important to us and we constantly strive to preserve the hotel in the most historic manner possible. Since the Historic Bullock's location is on Deadwood's Main Street there are other buildings around us but we are the tallest building on our block. The best views are going to be in the front facing Historic Main Street and the back facing Mt. Moriah. We do have a 24 hour casino with slot machines, Deadwood legalized gaming in 1989 specifically to fund one of the nations largest ongoing historic preservation projects. The tax revenues generated by gaming have literally saved the historic structures you see in Deadwood.

Historic hotel originally built by none other than Seth Bullock. Casino for gambling on the first floor, old-style photo decorations, authentic feel. Good, though small, restaurant in the back. I ate breakfast here, and my wife played the machines in the casino...felt that it was only right to honor Seth Bullock in this manner.
