“Simply Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

My husband and I had our wedding vows renewed in one of the hotels reception rooms. The event coordinator for the hotel was superb! The furniture, silverware, and every other detail was perfect. I could not ask for a better experience! The room that we booked was beyond our expectations! The room was completely to the era being represented. It was romantic and classy! There were truffles in the hall way for guests and fresh scones with coffee and tea the next morning. I can not recommend this establishment more!

From the moment we set foot in this fabulous hotel, the Nostalgia of the property permeented throughout the atmosphere. We stayed in Suite 7-8 and it was perfect. The room decor is bexceptionally well done, the bed left a feeling of sleeping in the clouds, while the motif leaves the feeling that Wild Bill Hicock will enter the building at any moment.
Kudos and 5 stars to the Mgmt.

“It was OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

We stayed here in June 2011. We choose this hotel because we recieved a very good price for the location. It was significantly less than other hotels we looked at in the area. The service was good, the rooms were clean, if you appreciate historical places and don't need the modern amenities provided by bigger chain hotels then this hotel will be great for you. Our only qualm was with the first room we were given (#3 I believe). The room was small, but nicely decorated, clean and had a great bed. However, the bathtub was in the same room as the bed and TV, right next to the door and had no sort of shower curtain. It was nearly impossible to shower without spraying everything with water; and there was no sort of privacy for the person bathing from anyone else that may be in the room. The next night we asked to be switched to a different room and we were moved to a room that had a separate bathroom and shower (with curtain). Other than the issue with first room there isn't much to complain about as we got it for a good price in a great location. However, if you are looking for modern amenities I'd look elsewhere.

“Perfect Location, Beautiful Decor, Helpful Staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

We spent 3 nights in this charming hotel. We were fortunate enough to have one of the suites, which was spacious, beautifully decorated, and comfortable. Being that the hotel is historical, there are certain "inconveniences," ie, smaller bathroom....but that was really minor compared to the opportunity to stay in such a beautifully cared-for building. The owner and staff are gracious and exceptionally helpful. And oh! The bed? FABULOUS! Great linens and mattress was amazing

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful. We looked at almost all of them, of course the suites were the best choice.

“Beauty amid the slot machines”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

This hotel (really a collection of about ten guest rooms on the second floor of a historic building) is one of the most unusual places I have ever stayed. But then the entire Black Hills region is unusual - an island of pine forests rising from the prairie - and Deadwood is unusual within the Black Hills - a lively town of restaurants, bars and blinking neon slot machines instead of the half-deserted, tiny town atmosphere that prevails elsewhere. The Martin and Mason Hotel is beautifully restored - modern conveniences have been introduced with the utmost subtlety but you will still feel like you have time-traveled back to the 1890s. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. There is no lobby or other hotel-like infrastructure - everything on the entry level, the floor below, is devoted to the slots and supporting services. If, like me, you are not a gambler and find the blinking neon kind of garish, the transition to the refined atmosphere in the hotel floor above is very striking. One feature I loved was a little coffee cart in the hotel hallway - gourmet chocolate drops in the evening, scones in the morning.
