“The only place to stay, eat and drink in Lochgoilhead”

I am a frequent visitor to this area and without question this is the best accomodation, bar and restaurant in the area. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with the Friday night sing along a real treat. Food is excellent and the service second to none. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I highly recommend the steak and pizzas. If you are booking, ask for a window seat, its the best view from a restaurant window I have ever known.

Thank you! We are delighted to hear you like what we offer at the Shore House. We do our best to make it a pleasant venue for everyone but sadly one or two reviewers have claimed to be disappointed and their remarks could put others off if it weren't for genuinely positive feedback like yours. Regards, Gillian Curtis

“Nice Area / Disappointing Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2010

Stayed for 1 night with my husband. Difficult to find as hidden down a very rough pot holed track which my hubby was'nt too happy taking his car down.
Room was okay but not really to our tastes-nothing terrible just a personal taste thing however the view was spectacular. The room was cold and felt a bit damp to us.

We eat in the restaurant and found the food extremely overpriced (usual tartan tax rip off!) and average. The small bar next door was busy with supposedly local 'musicians'. I use that word lightly as we thought it sounded like a drunken sing along which was interspersed with dogs barking and shouting. This continued all evening and could be clearly heard in our room. Not conducive to a relaxing get away from it all break or particularly romantic either.

All in all pretty mediocre and although in an undeniably beautiful area, I don,t think we would return to the Shore House Inn again as it was vastly overpriced for what it offers.

It's quite fascinating how people can have such different opinions of something and just goes to prove the old adage 'you can't please all the people all the time' - if only we could! The informal friday night music sessions might not suit everyone but our regular patrons and the majority of visitors enjoy the convivial atmosphere, the acoustic guitar music and the chance to join in the singing. It is a pity this was not condusive to the romantic evening you were hoping for but had you stayed another night you might have felt differently.

As good as it gets - quiet hospitable friendly great value in beautiful location far from the madding crowd. Restaurant is good value with excellent food made from local ingredients .Real ale is from Loch Fyne ales . Super cooked breakfast cooked for us by the owner couldn't be faulted. What a pleasant change from the usual west coast rip offs !

“I Just Love This Place......”

Another fantastic visit, this time also with my very elderly mother, & she loved it too. Access was a wee bit dificult for her as she's pretty disabled, but we knew that & all managed fine. She described our last night as one of the best she'd ever had. The food standards just seem to get better than ever, Gillian & Mark and their lovely staff do a wonderful job. Ok, I know I'm gushing, but it's deserved!

“An exceptional stay”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Shore House Inn where the welcome was very warm and the food excellent. The style of the rooms pleased us: uncluttered, comfortable, clean, white and... a brilliant shower; though not at the front ( room 3), the view of the fells, behind, was breathtaking. To be honest it was one of the most relaxing places I have ever stayed in: the location is stunning, the service was superb: the staff were very courteous but not pushy, always seeing to your needs. The standard in the kitchen was very high. We ate in all three nights- we found the menu compared very well and they had both real ale (often a rarity in hotels) and French wine. The weather was good for most of our visit but we noticed that the staff actually protected the outdoor tables during the rain; so after a walk I was able indulge myself: i.e. sit with a drink and read Wolf Hall, taking in an occasional look up at Loch Goil in all its glory.
