“An absolute gem of a place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2012 NEW

Just spent a weekend at Blue Sky, prior to return flight to UK. Will certainly be back here if we need to overnight on an arrival or for return flight & hope to be back for a few days to explore more of the beautiful area of Greece between here & Cape Sounion. Perfect location, set in neat & attractive gardens on a quiet street with parking. Lovely room - clean & airy with good towels & a proper shower cabinet. Excellent buffet breakfast with lots of choice & endless quantity! Owner Kosta & his staff were professional, efficient & friendly. Lots of public seating areas inside & out - ideal for relaxing with a drink with the friends we were meeting here for a couple of days. Outstanding value, with very realistic bar prices & within walking distance of good eateries & the trendy nightlife of Glyfada. Could also make an ideal base for a trip into Athens city centre as transport options are almost on the doorstep, & by car is 25 minutes easy drive from airport.

“Another Great Experience at Blue Sky”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2012

We stayed twice here during April and again were very satisfied. I've been staying here on and off for several years and prefer it to central Athens. Blue Sky is a great value budget hotel located in Glyfada - one of the most attractive Athens suburbs.

By staying here you avoid the noise and grime of central Athens. The coastal tram or buses will whisk you into the centre in less than an hour for about 1.5 euro if you want to hit the tourist trail and museums. It's twenty minutes by taxi. A taxi to the airport will cost you 30 euro or you can take the express bus and get a day's travel included as well for 5 euro! It's about a ten minute walk to buses and the tram.

Glyfada is full of tree-lined boulevards, close to the sea and the beaches of the Athens Riviera. At the same time it has one of the most cosmopolitan shopping streets and thirty or forty decent restaurants to choose from. The hotel gives out free Glyfada maps.

The hotel offers services more akin to a three star including breakfast, bar, room safe, free internet and friendly, helpful staff. They wouldn't take any money when I printed off 7 lots of boarding passes! Try getting that for free in the centre! Rates are reasonable and there are often special deals to be had. Rooms are clean if basic. Some are ground floor which will help for those with limited mobility. Some have balconies and the area is pretty quiet. However, the corridors do tend to amplify the noise of wheeled cases of arriving/departing guests.

I will inevitably use Blue Sky again when in Athens. If you're looking for a great deal without 5 star surroundings, you just found it.

Room Tip: Ask to be shown a selection of the available rooms - rather than accepting the first one offered. T...

“Very nice, clean, friendly and sunny!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2012

I only thought to write this review now for some strange reason, even though I stayed in 2010. It was really nice and the breakfast was really nice, and a nice breakfast area. The room was very clean and had kitchen kinda facilities and a wardrobe and balcony. It wasn't the cheapest but totally worth it! The staff were friendly and the location was a short walk from everywhere. 5 - 10 min walk from the supermarket & the tram line!

I didn't stay in April 2011 but that was the earliest I could select.

“Excellent family owned and run choice”

Stayed about a year or two back but only just found this page to give credit where credit due.

Very little to find fault with here. From making the bookings with Costas to meeting him in person at check in and later when working the bar. Very friendly, efficient and helpful indeed at all stages.

Immaculately clean, good sized and well equipped rooms with daily cleaning were extremely comfortable.

Breakfast was a pleasing affair also - I chose to take mine out into the garden to enjoy the morning sunshine or shaded areas as per my whim of the day. Great choice for breakfast too with return trips to the buffet style self service area welcomed.

Only about ten minutes' walk down the road to the tram stop up to Voula in the one direction and Piraeus or Athens in the other. Voula and it's attractions being but two stops away. Athens (Syntagma terminus) being about 40 minutes at very reasonable fares inded. Taking a further 10 minutes' walk from the tram stop one comes to the coastal road where once again there are buses to Piraeus and Athens centre but also in the direction of Voula and beyond. Of particular interest being those running to and from Athens International Airport in only about 40 minutes and available 24 hours a day. They can be a little crowded but make an excellent and economical alternative to a taxi.

Only downsides as far as I was concerned were those 10 minute walks if lugging suitcases etc in the heat of the day - I was there during a heatwave - and a slight remoteness for my liking from restaurants. That said, the urban location had it's compensations in the peace and quiet they afforded.

That quiet location also proving useful to enjoy a relaxing evening drink from the (good value) bar in the garden.

Thank you once again Costas and your friendly efficient staff. When I am again in need of Hotel accommodation in the Athens/Glyfada area you will be my first point of contact.

Chris Allsopp.
