“Everything we hoped for from a wedding in the snow!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We had our wedding here nearly 2 weeks ago and are glad we did. It is in a stunning location for a wedding, and really does look like a picture postcard. Everyone who made the effort to get there was glad they did, with all our guests saying that they had the best time - some even claiming it was the best wedding they had ever been to! A wedding in the snow was really something special, particularly with a fresh snowfall on the morning of the big day - and the ice curling competition we had with gluhwein and brezen was a lot of fun. The schuplattler arranged for after dinner was also a huge hit. Everyone said how much they enjoyed the wedding meal & thought the wines were fantastic. Maximilian and Sigrid certainly put in a huge amount of effort to make it the success that it was. Our room was gorgeous, and the maid's personal touches made us smile. I would have liked a bit more staff support during the earlier part of our wedding day for serving the coffee and cake (there appeared to be only one waiter to serve 36 of us), but found that the staff support for the rest of the day was exemplary, with everyone knowing the full details of our plans, without either of us having to continually instruct them, which meant we both could actually relax and enjoy our wedding as well! The communication with the hotel prior to our getting married could have been better, which I am grateful that Maximilian acknowledged - we had been looked after first by Johanna, then Sigrid, and then Maximilian. It would have been more preferable to stick with one, however, the communication the 3 had with each other was excellent and each picked up where the other left off, so this certainly compensated. As for the hotel in general, all the facilities, the ski services, the shuttle bus services, the spa facilities, the bar service, the reception assistance for booking taxis and restaurants are highly recommended. In fact, the hotel's reception services are probably about the best I have ever seen. A dip in the indoor pool was lovely after skiing. We easily booked a snow shoe hike for all our guests through the hotel which was also a hit. The idea of having all the hotel's facilities and menus listed on the i-pad was just genius and used by us extensively. Many people booked sleigh rides and said this was wonderful. I concur with what many of the others have said about the food here, although I do find some of the reviews too harsh. The breakfasts were fantastic, but the dinners are straddling that difficult line between 'gourmet' and more standard fare. My personal opinion is that if they went one way or the other then they would pull it off, but are trying to straddle both which is probably why it is not working. For example, if you order a schnitzel, the portion is very large and served with fries, which is fine as a main meal on its own. If you order a vegetarian main, the portion is small and what you would expect of a main if you were eating a gourmet 3 course meal. This disparity makes it a little tricky when deciding what to order. All in all we had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this as a wedding and holiday destination. We are looking forward to returning to celebrate our anniversaries as well as trying out a summer holiday experience! We loved the family run vibe of this hotel - thank you once again to the Blumscheins for making it an exceptional day to remember.

Dear T. & S. (lockifluff)!

Thank you so much for this long and great review!
It was our pleasure and honour, that you celebrated your wedding in our house. I am glad that you and your party enjoyed the day and the entire program.
I am also happy that you understood that it is not normal that you had 3 spokespersons prior to your arrival. With the planning phase of almost a year and then Johanna’s and then Sigrid’s maternity leave wasn’t it always easy – but we did it ;-)
Take care of each other and if you need to freshen up some wedding memories you know where to find us!
All the best!
Family Blumschein & team.

“Winter Wedding Wonderland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We went to this hotel in January 2012 to get married. The hotel is beautiful and full of character in a stunning location - everywhere you look is like a snowy Christmas card scene.
Nothing was too much trouble. The staff were all friendly and welcoming and did everything they could to ensure that our entire stay, as well as our wedding day, was one that both we and our guests will always remember with fond memories.
Horse drawn sleigh ride into the national park highly recommended as well as the many other hotel facilities, including the spa.
Very much looking forward to a return visit...

“Very nice Hotel”

This is a very pretty hotel in a special location, in the middle of nature. We have been with our kids and some friends. The kids really enjoyed and loved the place. Living in the city we apreciated a lot to be in a place out of the town, in the middle of trees, woods river and mountains. With the snow it was a magic - romantic - relaxed atmosphere. There is the possibility to take a horse sleigh, just outside the hotel door, that takes you to a long ride among the protected park until a cosy restaurant in the top hill .... it was perfect, we even saw a deer and the children were exited. Our room was big and confortable. the food was good and the family owner is always there to meet the clients and help for any need. Taking a cocktail in the evening with our friends at the bar in front of the fireplace when kids were at the mini club playing was relaxing and we really apreciated it. We hope to be back in the summer.

Room Tip: There are 3 different buildings, the main one is where the restaurant is, another one has the spa, a...

Dear Cathe d!

Thanks a lot for sharing your great experience on this site! We are glad your kids enjoyed it as well and that they got some "nature-experiences". That you saw some deers is great !

You will see it in summer, with all the freshness nature gives us and our rangers who do the outdoor program - you will enjoy it in summer as well!

Thanks again & see you soon!

“A dream location for a winter wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I’ve just returned from a 4 night stay at this gorgeous hotel, to attend a family wedding. From the start we were made to feel so welcome and settled in to our comfortable rooms quickly. Double bed (two duvets – as is usual in Austria) with a seating area and table in front of the large flat-screen TV. We were staying in the building across the small stream from the main building. All the staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble at all. We’d booked on a b&b basis so enjoyed the wide range of food available at breakfast – there was even a chef on duty to create your choice of omelette.

There are so many rooms to enjoy the beautiful views of the mountains from or the many facilities offered by the hotel. Gorgeous indoor swimming pool and very pretty outdoor one. Sadly I didn’t have enough time to sample them all.

Everything was presented beautifully for the wedding itself – flowers, candles, music, wonderful chocolate cake and the meal for the evening reception was delicious. We all enjoyed the horse drawn sleigh ride through the countryside and a hot chocolate half way along the trip. Wrapped up in thick blankets it was very special indeed.

In January the snow was thick on the ground (about two feet) but local taxis still seemed able to take us the 10 minute journey to and from Bad Gastein which is also where the main train station is. Our trip to Salzburg took about an hour and a half.

Oh yes, don’t forget to order your Sachertorte (Chocolate cake) the day before you leave which comes in a lovely wooden presentation box. Yummy.

I would love to return and hopefully will some day.

Room Tip: All the rooms seem to have wonderful views and balconies.
