“For us it was good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2011

The Hotel Portavescovo was a friendly, comfortable and clean hotel with all the facilities you could want after a day on the slopes, Swimming Pool, Sauna, Steam Room and Bar. Friendly staff who did all they could, language permitting, to help and fantastic tasty choice of food in the Restaurant, both for breakfast and dinner (even catering for a special diet for a member in our group).

The hotel was a short walk from the slopes and lifts, and snow permitting you were able to ski to the back door (car park). All rooms had balconies, we were lucky to have one with a view and television with a few English speaking channels (when you have children this is always a positive). For the computer technos wifi was available in the lounge area. There was a bar for the apres ski, a quiet lounge area in reception, and a family area with live music, bar and pool table, in the basement you could also play table tennis. If you were tired enough after a day on the slope there was a fully equipped Gym too!!

Our room was extremely comfortable, with lots of storage, a digital safe for your passports and a fully equipped ensuite, including hairdryer. Our childrens bedroom was pretty much the safe, with rather a quirky bathroom with a sloping roof (not one for the taller peops). With maids coming in every day to make the beds and bring fresh towels, it was perfect.

Unfortunately the one downer for our holiday was the rest of our group were booked in to the annexe where the rooms were the same size but darker and the ensuites not as up to date. We were not sure if this because they were in the middle of a revamp of this area or whether they were privately owned and rented out to the hotel? It was just a bit unfortunate as when paying the same price for the holiday you would expect the same standard of room.

That aside great holiday, excellent base for the Sella Ronda skiing, thoroughly recommend it to everyone.

“It's actually not that bad”

Arabba is a small quiet town, and this hotel is fairly traditional one with decent clean rooms and facilities. The food is ok - although both of the times I have been there I have been eating with a large group in a separate dining room.

Good things - location, views, food, the Bars.

Bad things - Pool a bit small, the Breakfast Coffee is shockingly bad (from guest operated machines) for Italy and the breakfast buffet is a scrum. Not all the receptionists are very helpful. You have to pay for wifi access.

“it was all downhill !!”

We stayed at the Portavescovo for our first family skiing holiday. The hotel has a warm and welcoming atmosphere with helpful staff and clean, spacious rooms. The food was great but perhaps a little fussy for the kids. The ski lifts are about 100m from the hotel, perhaps a little far lugging the kids kit but there are few hotels which are better located. We looked at the Sporthotel which is said to be the best in the resort, too snobby for us. Overall, we would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Oh, the skiing was fantastic !! Scenery to die for.

  • Liked — we were looked after very well
  • Disliked — food a bit too fussy for the children

“Friendly and comfortable”

I have just spent a short time at the hotel on a skiing trip and found it to be very good in all respects. In particular the staff are friendly and helpful, the accommodation is clean and comfortable and the facilities are just what you need after a hard day skiing. While I can imagine that the small pool would become mobbed by small children in holiday periods, the sauna / steam rooms (which are off limits to under 16 year olds) provide good relaxation to tired legs.

The food always had something good on the menu.

Situated in a small village, the night life probably suits more mature and less demanding apres ski fanatics, but the access to a vaste range of skiing is excellent, in particular the Sellaronda and Marmolada runs.
