Totally agree with all David Framptons comments on trip advisors reviews July 2010 so will not retype them. Hotel manager Jose and his team work hard to ensure you have a lovely holiday but they can not disguise this great hotel really needs redecoration/updating. Thompson reps also try to be helpful. However this is a Thompson Gold Hotel and does not deserve a gold award for 2010. It is supposed to be an adult holiday not as it appeared this year- more like Butlins for very old OAPs. Think problem due to young inexperienced entertainment reps. Evening bought in entertainment pretty good overall (better all round in past years) Fill in - too many quizes, daily lotto, too tame aqua sessions, no low level background music around pool this year. The young reps need to understand better the needs of adults booking a Thompson gold holiday.

My husband and I booked this as a last minute break for 1 week. I had looked at it in the brochure before but discounted it due to the resort being so small, however this time we wanted just a quick, relaxing holiday. The Hotel is marvellous, the staff couldnt be more friendly or helpfull, cleanliness is at the forefront, food as good as we have had anywhere ( cant please everyone, this is not a la carte dining ) . We did not use hte pool area as we are beach people, but did witness the rush for beds on our early departure, although they do not open the doors until 7am so no need to rise at 4am if you like the pool, however it was cleaned each evening and was lovely, the only downside was the sea, each afternoon the water turned a strange green colour and an awful lot of debris came ashore, due to the affluence of this area there is an awful lot of large boats moared just off the bay area and a lot of day trip boats call there, and you can also see the cruise ships passing bye, my husband seems to think it is the waste from these, they do have some sort of system for keeping it out but it had been broken for over a week, we spoke to a couple of families who were visiting for the day and they were leaving due to this.We reported it to the Hotel and they asked us to write a complaint for the manager to take to the next council meeting, it would be a great shame to see this lovely bay loose business due to this.

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Hotel Playa in Cap de Mar and would recommend to anyone who wants a quiet break with no children. The hotel was excellent although perhaps it could do with a little updating. The staff were friendly and helpful as were the Thompson reps. If I was critical it would only be that with an average guest age of around 60 years perhaps the reps were all a little too young to fully understand the requirements of older guests. The rooms were clean and adequate for a summer holiday and we were surprised that they provided full UK TV including BBC ITV and SKY. The food was excellent with a full range of hot and cold choices. We did hear one couple moan that it had "chips with everything" and yes it did, but it also had roast potatoes, mash, boiled, rice and pasta so I fail to understand how chips were an issue. The entertainment was very good although perhaps the youthfulness of the reps was perhaps best illustrated in their choice of fill in entertainment between the professional acts. Having said that they were both lovely girls and they tried very hard and it did not distract from our enjoyment. The pool area was excellent, clean and spacious and the hotel management have altered the opening times to reduce the stupidity of having to queue in the mornings to obtain sun loungers. Unfortunately there are still a few very selfish and irritating guests even at a UK only Thompson Gold Hotel, so is is not only the Germans whose behaviour can be to the annoyance of others. It is clear that for every two sun loungers there are two mattresses, one table and one shade but unfortunately there are a few very selfish individuals who want more. When I challenged one man his reply was that his wife needed her own and so they have two between them which is fine but then someone elses wife does not have one at all. Of course this has nothing to do with the hotel or the reps both of which are trying their best to ensure fairness of opportunity for all.
Just one word of warning: do not join the PAL trip which is advertised as a free trip with a demonstration but which is nothing more than a sales trip to try and encourage you to but a mattress and woollen covers and which totally spoilt our day. It was promoted by the reps and so I can only assume their is some commission involved but my advice is AVOID IT.
All in all and excellent holiday which I would recommend to anyone who wants a quiet quality break in a stunning location.

Stayed for 1 week end of June 2010. The hotel is very well situated and if you get the better room you have an excellent sea view and pool view, however you are in the shade from 4pm ish. The resort is quiet with little to do so if you want something different and more active then santa ponsa/peguera are close by I am not normally one for hotel entertainment but i felt it was probably the best i have seen and in particular chique strings who played excellent violins to all sorts of music, the comedian was also funny and enjoyable. I am also a fussy eater but i found the food to be varied and of good standard and as usual ate too much. The hotel has a happy vibe and everybody is friendly and it felt good, and made several friends during our stay. there was a young couple who wanted to be moved to a more livelier hotel possibly because the average age of the hotel guests was probably about 70 years old but this was not a problem for us. The hotel was clean and the swimming pool good. the beach is excellent for snorkelling. The hotel staff and thomson reps were all friendly and accommodating. The one down side was that i felt overall that the hotel was probably in need of a face lift and some modernisation.
