“Very Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

A nice hotel. The breakfast is very good indeed and the room had several UK TV channels on the TV which was good (most just have BBC News or Sky News).

The only slight negatives for me was the charging for wifi (which I couldn't get in to), no tea or coffee making facilities and no iron in the room (however the hotel did arrange for housekeeping to bring one at 8am the next morning which was great.

“Just beats the Alexandra d'Or Hotel, but only because...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

It's all been said and this hotel just beats our stays at the Alexandra d'Or Hotel around the corner for which I have have left great reviews in the past.

Marina Luz wins but
NOT because the food was better..
NOT beacause the hotel was nicer..
NOT beacause the staff were good..
In fact, most things were on a par with Alexandra d'Or Hotel and I would say that Alexandra had better views from the balcony (for people and sea watching) IF you had the right room.

The wooden decking around the pool of the Luz is a bit dated and needs some attention as there were loose areas that could have caused injury. Oh, and the air con did not work; we asked for it to be fixed every day and when they said it had we had to disagree as it was still rubbish. Our daughters room next door was lovely and cool!

The reason that the Luz wins is because using Alpharooms you can book and gaurantee a room with a sea/pool view (not much more £) at this hotel rather than arriving at others and having minor debates at reception trying to be given a room that does not look out on traffic, waste land, brick work etc...

Room Tip: Book a sea/pool view before you go.

“Would stay here again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

This was our week in the sun holiday this year, and we were not disappointed at all.

Let's mention the planes first. Yes, they are close and can fly quite close. If you are noise sensitive in any way then this is probably not the location for you. That said I can honestly say I hardly noticed them flying over, I guess you get used to them, but they were not an issue for us.

Our check in was faultless and the room was tidy and contemporary. The staff on reception were always very helpful with any request we had. Found breakfast and the evening meal (we were half board) to be of a good quality, and not the 'school dinner' food that I have experienced in other similar hotels. The dining room staff were generally lovely, with the exception of a couple of surly chaps, but this was no big issue.

The beds were comfortable, although two single beds, and it was a bonus to have some British channels on the TV.

We found the resort itself a little on the quiet side. Don't get me wrong I don't seek out 18-30 destinations just some good bars and restaurants. Maybe it was the places we tried but found the service indifferent and a bit slow - not sure if this was to do with the end of season - or whether it was just us.

As other reviewers have mentioned Palma is very close by. You can get the bus for 1.50 euro each way as we did. Also, if you have the inclination, there is a very accessible cycle path along the coast to Palma which is worth doing. If you do there is a chap in the resort who let us have two bikes for 12 euros, rather than the 28 euros the hotel quoted us.

Overall we had a pleasant and relaxing stay and would stay here again.

“Good overall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

My wife and I managed to get away for a few nights without our young kids and opted for this hotel as it is billed as an adult only hotel. I'd read a lot the reviews here before booking, so was a little nervous about things like overbooking and noise from the planes.

Thankfully, we did have a room on arrival (although this is not something you should have to worry about!) and it was tastefully decorated, clean and had a very good bathroom. The room was a little small but there was plenty of wardrobe space. The beds were not great (2 singles pushed together) but neither of us had a bad nights sleep. We found our pool view room to be very quiet, with only a little rumble every now and then from a passing plane but definitely not enough to bother us.

The pool area is generally very good, although it was a must to get up early and mark your territory with a towel if you wanted a sun lounger! There is a lot of plane noise during the day when you're around the pool, which some people would not like. Some of the cushions on the seats in the outside bar area are a little worse for wear and to be honest, they don't do the look of the hotel any favours.

We generally found the service to be good but there were definitely some staff who were much better than others. Breakfast was excellent, with lots of choice from hot, full english breakfast, to continental, cereals, loads of fruit, pastries and meats. The bar food was also very good, although we didn't eat in the restaurant.

The views are very nice and the area is quiet. There is a lovely bar/restaurant just across from the hotel called puro beach. Worth checking out. We didn't really like the resort which is 10 minutes walk away. We found it to be a bit tacky, with not much of interest. We spent our nights in Palma, which is a great city and a 10 minute taxi from the hotel, about 15 euros each way. Simply Fosh is an absolutely outstanding restaurant and well worth a visit if you're prepared to splash out.

Overall, I'd probably give the hotel 3.5 stars but our stay was thoroughly enjoyable and was exactly what we were looking for - a quiet, relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms seem to be quieter.
