We were a party of four solo travellers, each with a twin room for sole occupancy, staying just the night of 29th October, 2011. We were catching a cruise from Palma the next day and wanted a hotel either near the airport or near the cruise terminal. The Alexander d'Or fell in to the first category, being a short distance from the end of the airport runway although a 10 minute taxi ride from the airport terminal.
Check-in was fast and very straight forward. Our rooms were near to each other and all had a splendid view of the beach across the road and the marina harbour beyond. They were on the small side for a hotel of this age but then we believe they were in the 'new' wing running North-South. We saw rooms in the East-West running wing which were considerably larger than ours. Our rooms were clean, well-maintained and perfectly adequate without compromise to luxury. The functional bathrooms were provided with essential toiletries.
The dining room again was functional, harshly-lit and the self-service buffet uninspired. Most of the guests appeared to be Spanish with the Germans and the British making up most of the rest. One plus was an excellent range of delicious coffees from two self-service machines.
C'an Pastilla was a pleasant surprise. It was mostly 60's and 70's low-rise buildings but set with low density and with plenty of trees and greenery. The promenade road was largely traffic-free and occupied by joggers and cyclists. The resort had more of a feeling of a sleepy retirement village by the sea than a mass-market tourist town of old.
I would happily return to C'an Pastilla for a weekend or two rather than the nightmare resorts a little further down the same coast going away from Palma, and at the Alexander d'Or if it were available for the same excellent rates (we paid £30 pp for sole-occupancy, full-board). Highly recommended for the money.
