Small rooms, nice location. Not many per floor. Don't leave your things out or else the cleaning staff will steal them. We're down a $300 pair of Coach sunglasses my wife left on the bedside table during our multi night stay.

Room tip: Ask to be away from the construction.

Hi David,

Thank you for your recent review of our property. While I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the neighborhood, I must admit I'm surprised and concerned to learn of your wife's missing sunglasses. Our lost and found department could not locate any report of missing property matching your description but I would be happy to personally assist you in filing one at this time. Please advise of the best way to reach you so we may resolve this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Stay on 14th floor with unobstructed Manhattan view, so no problems with noise due to the big construction work on the road. Room was great but bed was too soft and wardrobe space too small for me.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. You feel that you are very welcome here.
Enjoy the breakfasts at the cafe , so lively and attentive. Prefer not outside , so noisy!
I don't like the design of the whole groundfloor especially the lobby and there was no lounge. I prefer the previous design, more minimalistic and modern. But hey it's my taste.
Location was perfect. Near everything. Wide street and open view.
I will stay here again if I visit NYC.

Room tip: High floor and streetside

Hi JaneZ974,

Thank you so much for the feedback. I'm happy to read you enjoyed your time with us here in the East Village. We take pride in all of our team members and I loved hearing about the positive impression they made during your stay. Just FYI for next time you are here with us, we can easily have the mattress topper removed from your bed if you prefer a firm mattress. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Until next time!

What we loved: location (very hipster part of town with great bars and restaurants nearby and East Village, Soho, Nolita and Greenwich Village all in walking distance), quality toiletries, extremely comfortable bed, powerful shower, clean lines and contemporary room design, overall atmosphere and hipsterness, cocktails in cafe standard (Penny Drop my fav) complimentary wifi, comp gym passes, helpful staff.

Overall we absolutely loved this hotel. The rooms and bathrooms did feel a little on the small side as did wardrobe space. However, I sense this is typical for NYC and it would definitely not put me off staying here again, which I would jump at given the chance!

We normally stay uptown or midtown and wanted something a little quieter (especially after a big night out) when sleeping is all you want to do.

As with most hotel rooms in NYC, you have to realign your expectations to the startling fact - they are going to be cosy. And the Standard is no different, however the welcome surprise was the full size bathroom with bath and shower that we put to full use every night.

Location wise, being a short 4-5 minute walk to Astor Pl subway, you can be downtown or uptown in less than 15 minutes.

The staff are very friendly - although there seems to be plenty of them and not sure what they all do. If you are into the gym (which is across the road) or fitness, don't forget to grab your free passes and like the gym, internet is provided free/included as part of your stay.

So, with all the good things to say, why not FIVE star? Well, the only disappointment was the adjoining cafe/restaurant. Over eight nights, we dined for breakfast four times and the experience was split. Two visits, it was outstanding, fast, fun, smooth and the other two times, well, couldn't be bothered comes to mind and I lost count how many times I had to ask for my sparkling water, which finally arrived when we were leaving. One thing I don't get is why someone can't serve you that ISN'T your waiter.

The saving grace is that the food was very good as was the atmosphere and the bar was fun and lively when we returned to our hotel every night.

Would we stay again. Without a doubt, yes. The only thing we might do next time is request a higher room for a little light and view.

Great location, easy access to east village restaurants and bars, great staff, excellent bar. Free Wifi. Rooms small (hey, its NY) but wall of windows keeps you from feeling cramped. Ask for a room above the 8th floor and on the front for rooftop views across Coopers Square.
Cons: Noise in hallway from cleaning staff can get loud (banging doors).
Slow service in the garden. No gym (though you can get vouchers to a gym a block away).

Room tip: Ask for a room above the 8th floor and on the front for rooftop views across Coopers Square.
