helpful staff/ good breakfast/private rooms good, with great bathrooms.clean but beds could be more comfortable. Can be noisy if you are in a dorm. Trams into city are 50yds away.
A good cheap place to stay.

Great place.i stayed at India hous for one night, stayed with 3 other people in one of the private rooms and it was just perfect, the hostel itself is just what you would want from a hostel, a place full of friendly peoPle and great vibe. The couple of guys at the front could really be a little bit more helpful and friendly.
They have a little kitchen food area outside with some great food for sale with great prices...the courtyard it's perfect to meet others or just chill.
They are close to the French quarter, the location is not the best in the city but close enough to all the attractions and literally a minute walk to the trolly that takes you downtown just for a few bucks.
This place has its own personality and it's great!
Reallly liked this place! Courtyard in between the buildings creates a perfect space to meet people. We stayed in Vodoo hut, really kookie and unusual, reminded me of places you would find in Gilli or Bali... Not luxury, but clean and cute with helpful staff and yes you have to catch the trolley into town - but it gets you out and about and is easy to ride. Will stay again if I am back in NOLA anytime.
I enjoyed my stay, but just be prepared its LOUD! I stayed in the 6 bed female dorm that overlooks the pool area and every night there was merriment and music that went well into the night and the sound filled our room. I can't imagine how the neighbors stand it. And its not really very clean- it looks and smells like it could use some elbow grease and scrub the corners. But there are No Bugs, just dirty from use. But Lots of fun people, and great location for the street car and restaurants.
We stayed at India House Hostel for 4 days back in October and it was a great stay. The hostel itself is a little run down and certainly is in a pretty run down neighbourhood. I don't know what to say about the area; it seemed okay to me, but it depends how high your threshold is for staying in poorer areas. The hostel location besides that is really good, only a couple of minutes walk to the trolley which takes you into downtown in about 10/15 minutes.
The hostel makes its own meal which are fairly cheap and absolutely delicious, as well a really nice cooked breakfasts. There is a really nice friendly outgoing vibe to the hostel and people are always up for a few beers (i'll leave it up to you to decide if that's a good thing or not)
Overall, it's a great hostel, with a great atmosphere - would stay again.
